Tuesday was a day of spider mites. Beans AND CORN! Check out my hat. That’s what happens when you walk through a field of corn with mites from top to bottom. Just because you’ve gotten some rains, it doesn’t necessarily mean they’re done…

Fun fact...each corn tassel may create from 2 to 25 million pollen grains. Mid 80* temperatures is ideal for pollination. #Thinkburrus – at Illinois, USA

Pretty neat perspective!!!
Without rain to wash it away, it’s easy to see how much pollen overproduction there is in corn. Millions of pollen grains produced per plant compared to hundreds of silks. The whole nursery will look like the Yellow Brick Road if we don’t get a shower soon!

Seems early for NIL, but found a CRW pupa while digging roots. Years like this it’s not uncommon to see these earlier than normal. Still though, lots of smaller larvae still, and lots of feeding to go.

After seeing @talkingrootworm post on volunteer corn I decided to dig one myself to look for CRW larvae. Pretty sure these guys are already pupa stage!

Just because 😊🌽. It might be a corn seedling, but I also see a whole lot of hopes, relief, and anticipation all wrapped up in one pic that simply makes me smile 😊🌽

It’s takes a village to increase the national avg corn yield by roughly 70 bu every 40ish years, but corn breeders have contributed a HUGE part of that success! Amazing!
Me: Wish this crossing block was faster Breeder’s tech in the 1920s:

It’s a beautiful day to be in a corn field!!! Hybrid personalities and how they deal with different environments is pretty awesome to watch right now! It’s my happy time! We are still waiting for the end of the story, but there are plenty of cliff hangers around!

It is amazing how much you can improve your life and subsequently your relationships with your spouse, your friends, and your colleagues with this singular mindset: “How can I help?”

Who remember Mac? 😁😊 Progressive Farmer article from 2000. He sure inspired a lot of young adults to have passion for weed science!

I was scrolling looking for soybean pic from a couple yrs ago, and ran across this tweet. Still a ‘cold case’ for me…. If anyone has any leads on Luppe Schone - I’m all ears!!!!
Anyone know a Luppe Schone? I have this pic in family photos. I haven’t found how he fits in my tree, but the photo has stuck w me for years now. Thought I’d share in Twitter world and see if anyone ‘knows’ him 😊

Timing is right for my annual reminder of yield loss when soybean moisture dips below 12%. 8%-5.43% 9%-4.4% 10%-3.3% 11%-2.25% 12%-1.14% of yield It’s still September, don’t give away any more than you have to!!!
