Christopher Wood was fond of flowers as a subject, and this painting from 1925 (influenced by van Gogh) shows a degree of maturity by which his pictures from this period were characterised. This work also reveals his understanding of colour and harmony.

Clocking off now, as I had a very early start. Tomorrow will be an easier day. Here’s some rather lovely chrysthamums for you. Thank you for all your likes and kind comments, they are appreciated. Enjoy your evening. Zoe 🍁💐🍁

L.S. Lowry was born on this day 1887 at 8 Barrett Street, Old Trafford.
Made in Pendlebury, born in Stretford: L.S. Lowry (1887-1976) remains the artist most closely associated with the north. ‘My ambition was to put the industrial scene on the map because nobody had seriously done it,’ he said. Incredibly, nobody had. 1/6

I'm able to take on just one or two more pre-orders for my nature jewellery before I close my🎄order book. They're detailed casts of real flowers such as snowdrops and lily of the valley, nature finds such as feathers & tiny sculptures of much-loved bird species.I make each piece by hand. A RT would help *so* much, thankyou 🌿🪶: etsy.com/uk/shop/silverpebbl…

Hops (Humulus lupulus) were valued for more than brewing. Their dried cones were stuffed into pillows in the belief that their scent encouraged sleep. A hop-filled pillow was even prescribed for George III, and later became a fashionable remedy for sleeplessness. #FolkloreSunday

On a still morning, sitting by the froth of Burbage Brook as it tumbles through Padley Gorge, you can't help feeling that you've somehow fallen into a different world ... perhaps when you tripped over that tree root. Here, there's no haste or pressure, no noise but the constant rush and bubble of water and the occasional fall of a leaf. I find that I always stay long, long after I've taken the shot, losing track of time, just watching and listening and breathing it all in, so grateful for such places and the chance to fall into them. This is the view that will be bringing autumn peace to your wall throughout November if you managed to snap up one of my 2026 Peak District Calendars. My 2027 Calendar is still available but I'm now running low on stock - so if you would like one for only £10.95 + UK P&P please see the link in the comments below or in my bio. Thank you. 📍 Peak District, England

D-Day was approaching, yet Britain was already running another secret operation in the shadows: Operation Marathon. Hidden forest camps, Lysander rescues and MI9 agents stood ready to parachute behind enemy lines and recover hundreds of downed Allied airmen. Let’s explore: (🧵)
