"Another baker poured flour, sugar, barley malt, yeast & a few of yesterdayโs bagels into an industrial mixer. After a brief rest that dough was put into the former ... "
The former = a machine that forms the bagels not something already mentioned.
Be better, @nytimes

JD Vanceโs mother was a raging addict and didnโt lose custody of her children until she drove a car 100 miles an hour and threatened to kill them all.
He knows exactly how bad the abuse that Dr. Amy Acton suffered as a child had to be in order for her to have been removed.
JD Vanceโs support of Vivek Ramaswamyโs heinous ad to discredit Dr. Amy Adamโs abuse should haunt him.
Heโs a sick & demented monster.

@AlexandraJacobs A Timesian trend!! "But he [Jeffrey Schmalz] saw an opportunity for illumination โ and drew on his personal experience to do some of the most important early reporting on AIDS before he died, in November of 1993 [during my tenure]. You're in good company!

I describe my time at the Times as exhilarating & exhausting. Was always in roles there w/ daily deadlines + multi-day projects. Was proud to work there but also glad I found rewarding work w/ better hours and pay elsewhere. Would never have found work-life balance otherwise

I stayed nearly 10 years & then worked 20+ in writing/editing roles in Corporate America. Never regretted leaving & love being a subscriber! Drop me a DM if you want to discuss in more detail, now or down the road

@AlexandraJacobs, you are not alone! This from a Maureen Dowd article: "Before he died in 1993 at 39, Jeff wrote poignantly โ yet unsparingly โ about why the political and medical cavalry would not arrive in time for him."
Hard-to-parse headline from @nytimes ... but I powered through

Gracious of you. I'm a former copy editor ... and was a NYT staff editor in the past century!!

Before his death ... as opposed to what?

I care because I went to j-school & because I worked at The Times before its copy desks lost a lot of their seasoned editors to buyouts. I frequently point out editing mishaps & hope someone at the paper will notice. Every now & then, someone does.

Apparently not you.
"[Richard] Lewis was interviewed for this book before his death ..."
Where were your @nytimesbooks editors, Alexandra? If they can't be a reliable backstop, you'll just have to save yourself.
I reviewed the new Larry David bio and here is evidence that his hair used to be cumulus not cirrus (you can take the gal out of Styles, but..). .nytimes.com/2026/10/18/booksโฆ
"A tourism office in Lyon was also broken into and set on fire by rioters, many of them dressed in black clothes, masks and goggles."
Why use the passive voice, @nytimes?

You know who did pass the bar exam? First Lady #MichelleObama, Justice #KetanjiBrownJackson, VP #KamalaHarris, and Congresswoman #JasmineCrockett.
#DEI doesnโt lower the bar. It exposes those who canโt reach it.

Did she outlast Scaramucci?
