En 1881 armó un batallón de caballería y se fue a la Breña.
Se batió en el campo de Huamachuco en 1883. Murió rebelde contra el vendepatria Iglesias en 1884.

Es decir, parece que el canciller cayó en una trampa propagandística rusa. Era estrictamente necesario que él fuera cuando las gestiones por los soldados las puede hacer el embajador o un funcionario enviado especialmente para esa misión? El resultado es que el Perú aparece avalando a Rusia.
