53 orangutans have now been rescued from forests devastated by fires in West Kalimantan, Indonesia, and the scale of destruction is horrifying.
More than 48,500 hectares have burned this year. Orangutans are being found starving, injured and desperately searching for food in forests that have been destroyed.
These are critically endangered animals losing the very habitat they depend on to survive. How much wildlife must suffer before protecting forests becomes a priority rather than an afterthought?

People desperate for rainfall in a rainforest. This is how badly we've fucked up the earth's climate. And the era of climate chaos is only just beginning.
So happy to see rain finally falling in this part of South Kalimantan. I hope it helps bring the fires under control, gives the exhausted firefighters some relief and, most importantly, gives the wildlife and animals caught up in the fires a chance to survive ❤️

Namanya ATLAS.
Dia ini bisa dibilang kayak "selebriti lokal" berbadan kekar.
Atlas, orangutan jantan dewasa yang punya jabatan keren sebagai pejantan dominan di wilayah sekitar Pondok Tanggui.
Berikut ini cerita santai tentang kehidupan si Atlas:
🦧Anak senja yang asli liar.
Atlas ini gak pernah ngerasain hidup di kandang. Dia lahir langsung di alam liar dari induk bernama Akhmad (orangutan legendaris era 70-an). Jadi, insting liarnya emang top banget!
🦧Punya pipikendang yang gagah. Sebagai bos di wilayahnya, Atlas punya cheek pads (bantalan pipi lebar) yang gede banget di wajahnya. Ini semacam simbol kalau dia adalah penguasa dan cowok paling keren di mata para orangutan betina di sana.
🚨Insiden Papan "Harap Tenang" Beberapa waktu lalu, Atlas sempat bikin heboh netizen di media sosial. Waktu itu dia lagi jalan santai di area jembatan kayu, terus tanpa dosa dia nyender dan numpang lewat di papan informasi besi bertuliskan "Quiet, Please" (Harap Tenang).
Karena badannya super kekar, papan besi tebal itu langsung patah dan bengkok kayak kerupuk!
Videonya langsung viral karena ekspresi Atlas santai banget, seolah gak bersalah.
Atlas itu gambaran nyata gimana gagah dan kuatnya orangutan Kalimantan kalau hidup bebas dan bahagia di rumah asli mereka.
