One time I was walking through the city at around 1 AM and some guy stepped into my way and asked for "bus money". I just said: "no cash" and kept walking, slightly annoyed. I only realized 10-15 minutes later that there are no buses at 1 AM...

I didn't realize the title "Ratatouille" was a play on the word "rat" until maybe my 5th time watching the film. I thought it was a straightforward reference to the dish featured in the film. This kind of thing happens to me often, and I worry it makes my peers think less of me.

The point was that he attempted to get some money from me in a way that didn't really imply I have an option to say no, but I didn't realize it until too late, which makes it similar to the situation in the original post, but worse in a certain way.
