โIn KwaZulu-Natal, Working for the Coast creates jobs for people whose daily work protects and maintains our coastal environment. That work does two things: it safeguards our natural assets, and it puts money in peopleโs pockets while they gain practical skillsโ - DM Singh.
โEnvironmental degradation, illegal dumping and pollution must not become normal in our communities. Our Environmental Management Inspectors play a vital role in protecting the environmental rights of all South Africans. We need residents to dispose of waste correctly, businesses to manage their waste responsibly, municipalities to deliver services, and young professionals who can help us find better solutionsโ the DM concluded.

DAY 2 @UNBiodiversity COP17 - From planning to finance: turning South Africaโs biodiversity priorities into investable action.
At CBD COP17 in Yerevan, South Africa hosted a side event titled โAdvancing South Africaโs Biodiversity Agenda: From Planning to Financeโ at the UN Pavilion.
The session began by grounding the discussion in South Africaโs national context with the overview of the state of the countryโs biodiversity presented by SANBI CEO, Shonisani Munzhedzi.
A panel discussion moderated by DFFE Deputy Director-General Ms Flora Mokgohloa brought together Ms Candice Stevens, CEO of the Sustainable Finance Coalition, and Ms Phindile Masangane, Group Executive at the Development Bank of Southern Africa.
The panel explored how South Africaโs biodiversity priorities can be developed into credible, investment-ready projects through project preparation, catalytic and blended finance, effective partnerships and measurable benefits for biodiversity and communities. The proposed DBSA Biodiversity Investment Facility provided a practical basis for considering how the gap between planning and investment could be bridged.
