@evanbeard built a $1B robot company on one idea: Robots are the next PC. "Every once in a while, the platform changes. Mainframe computers give way to the personal computer. The PC gives way to the internet. The internet gives way to mobile." "Software's leaving the screen. It's moving into the physical world, and it needs a new kind of machine to run on. That machine is the robot." "We have to build it here in the United States." @standardbots
A talented crew (EO) spent weeks on a mini documentary on @standardbots, and it's live today. Their crew came to our factory in Glen Cove, New York, and saw everything up close. That included the SMT room where we make every circuit board that goes into our robots, a factory floor we're growing from 30,000 to 70,000 square feet, and the team training our AI on real data from robots working in the field. A lot of the Standard Bots team came in to show them what we do and why we care so much about it. I'm really proud of how they told our story, including the hard parts. It took us seven years to sell our first 100 robots. At one point my friends staged an intervention and told me it was time to go do something else. We kept going. Here's why. Last year China installed 9x as many robots as the United States. Robots aren't just another kind of hardware. They're what makes everything else: semiconductors, medicines, defense systems, energy infrastructure. Our mission is to bring robotics and manufacturing back to the U.S. and rebuild the middle class along with it. Manufacturing has always been the heart of the American middle class. Robots make American workers more productive, and that's how we earn the right to create high-paying jobs here. Instead of welding in the smoke, a worker runs six welding robots. That's a better job, a safer job and a higher-paying job. We build robots in America, for use in America. Thank you to the EO team, and to everyone at Standard Bots who made time for this. Will robots replace human? @evanbeard says robots will create more high-paying jobs in America, not fewer. "Manufacturing is the heart of our middle class here in the United States." "Robots are the way we earn the right to create high-paying jobs and to build things here in the United States."
"Robots are not a category of hardware. Robots are the category that makes everything else." @evanbeard is building AI-native industrial robot arms in New York, designed and built in the US. In this episode of ODDS, we went inside @standardbots, from the room where they make their own circuit boards to the floor where robots learn new tasks in minutes, and hear why it took seven years to sell their first 100 robots, how his friends staged an intervention to get him to quit, and why he testified to Congress about American manufacturing. 0:00 America is falling behind on robots 1:38 7 years to sell the first 100 robots 3:18 From web design to Y Combinator to robots 5:29 A robot anyone can use with an iPad 6:40 Why build robots in America, not China 7:43 Inside the in-house electronics room 9:46 Robots are the next platform 11:59 The friends' intervention 17:34 Why arms, not humanoids 18:17 Why 70% reliability is a terrible teammate 22:52 The odds of building the next Apple or Nvidia

It's incredibly special to work with people whose stories give you goosebumps. @eo_build spent weeks with @evanbeard and the @standardbots team creating a short documentary about their mission to build their robots 100% in America and help bring back America's middle class 🇺🇸

Building America's largest manufacturer of AI-native robots isn't just a national imperative. It's also deeply personal. @eo_build went inside our Glen Cove factory with CEO @evanbeard and team to tell the story of how we got here, and how we’re helping bring manufacturing and a thriving middle class back to America.

Congrats on Flint @Recursive_SI, @RichardSocher! When we interviewed Richard, he hinted he was working on something big. So this is what he was up to. Always a few steps ahead. Our conversation: youtube.com/watch?v=LgewaIpQ…
Introducing Flint, @Recursive_SI’s first model: a fast local coding model built with our automated research system, the Eureka Machine. • Best-in-class fast local coding • Up to 2x faster than comparable models: 125+ tokens/sec on a MacBook Pro, 150+ on RTX Spark • Built from scratch in under 4 months Private, unmetered intelligence on your own machine. Open weights available now on @huggingface, run it locally on your favorite framework or try it for free on @opencode or @pidotdev.
