Effectiveness of COVID-19 vaccination and prior infections to reduce long COVID risk during the pre-Omicron and Omicron periods 🔥Canadian study conclusion👇, clearly demonstrating that we need mitigation, #cleanAir, to combat LC!!!!! ➡️“COVID-19 vaccination prevented long COVID during the pre-Omicron period and reduced the risk by more than half post-Omicron. With most of the population by now both vaccinated and infected, repeated booster doses may add little incremental value against long COVID, an observation with important public health, immunization program and cost implications.” So, - COVID-19 vaccines showed high efficacy (75-95%) against infection and long COVID pre-Omicron. Booster efficacy dropped to 41-57% during Omicron, waning over 6 months. - Hybrid immunity offered strong protection, but this too, wanes! - If we really want to fight LC, this study again, is a stark wake-up call for governments to support mitigation, while vaccination mainly defends against disease severity(Hospitalisation). Ok, study has limitations, follow-up was only +/- 9 months, the methodology, a survey-based study, and who financed this study( vaccination=costly)! IMPORTANT, again: Study demonstrates that “Omicron” is our LC variant as we’ve been telling you! pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/4102…

A victory in #COVID19 science--but still too many deaths. We lost >37K in US in last 5 months, more than a typical flu season for the entire year I wrote this @latimes op-ed to highlight why we inhabit parallel universes Need a call to action latimes.com/opinion/story/20…
