sorry to rehash my article on this from 9 months ago but if Dem leadership isnt willing to (1) demand massive budget cuts from DHS and (2) hold up other funding until they get it, then none of this posturing means anything. Tinkering won't fix the paramilitary brown shirt problem
The shooting of a New Yorker by ICE agents today is deeply disturbing, especially amid reports that a child was in the car when shots were fired. I’m relieved the man is receiving medical care and the child was unharmed. But enough is enough.
New Yorkers deserve the full truth about what happened. DHS must immediately release all body camera footage and ensure a full, independent investigation. When excessive force is used, there must be accountability. No one is above the law.
For months, I’ve warned that ICE’s increasingly aggressive tactics put lives at risk. That’s why Senate Democrats fought for enforceable safeguards holding ICE agents to the same standards as other law enforcement officers.
DHS can make all the claims it wants. The footage will speak for itself. Release it.
THREAD. Did you know that Minneapolis police deployed 101 personnel to a 7-person vigil held one morning at Renee Good's memorial? The cops generated $1.92 million in overtime cash for themselves.
You can read the full investigation here, and you can get a tiny glimpse into the world of surveillance, profiteering, and overriding focus of U.S. policing on crushing any remotely progressive social movements. thisisbydesign.com/how-mpd-b…

I was honored to consult on this urgently needed accountability project. It's a list of the 20 Biden era officials most responsible for genocide in Gaza and a pledge to not hire, promote or otherwise platform those who had a role in the destruction of Gaza. Follow if you can.
Write up by @prem_thakker of our campaign to hold Biden officials accountable for their support for war crimes in Gaza. Please read and follow if you can:

THREAD. This past week marks the 10-year anniversary of Civil Rights Corps. We have pioneered landmark civil rights litigation that has liberated hundreds of thousands of people from illegal confinement in jail cells.
We have also won $10,000,000s for the most vulnerable people in our society, pioneered political education and narrative strategies to change the way our society thinks about mass incarceration and family separation, and built innovative solutions to make our communities safer.
It has been the honor of my career to have worked with so many beautiful, relentless, kind, brilliant people to fight against some of the most monstrous and senseless state violence and profiteering. I'm so excited for the next 10 years @CivRightsCorps.
This is an important response by @tempest_mag to the recent nonsense spewed by “pro-police socialists” in Jacobin magazine and other venues: tempestmag.org/2026/09/in-de…
If you are in D.C., come join us at the MLK Library on Monday for this fantastic event. We'll be talking about propaganda, repression, and what we can do about it together.
Next session! Copaganda with @equalityAlec!

Amen.
This is one consequence of the left not being clear about reducing budgets for state repression. Every Democratic Party politician going on about “training” and “body cams” and every Jacobin author vaguely saying the left should not talk about repressive budgets leads to this:
The folks at Jacobin magazine (a self described socialist magazine for the left) seem to think the left should not be talking about stuff like this: xitter.cf/schuy_ler/status/20930…
