Happy to share our new work showing how social emotions such as anger and gratitude establish an interindividual form of actor-critic learning, which leads to the emergence of norms in groups of interacting individuals.
Now published at @APA_Journals: psycnet.apa.org/record/2026-…
Is risk-taking shaped by decision-making or by learning? In a new @NatureComms paper led by @AlonErdman, we show that in experience-based risk-taking, very little variance is explained by decision-making (top), but a lot is explained by learning (bottom). nature.com/articles/s41467-0…
Prediction is likely the most basic cognitive process, but we almost always think of it as applied forwards
In some environments, though, it's more efficient to apply it backwards - estimating the actions that will likely precede a given outcome
It turns out that's what we do👇
🚨 Beyond excited to share work w @eraneldar on Predecessor Representation in human choice is out now @NatureHumBehav
We show how PR or SR is more efficient due to the ratio of past:future states in an env in 6 studies!

🚨 I am thrilled to announce I will begin next fall as assistant professor of psychology @BarIlanU!!
We will model computations explaining how we plan & why we worry, among other things: see 🧵 below.

It was really fun to think about mood variability in adolescence and how it might arise from adolescent-specific Reinforcement Learning together with fantastic @GregorovaKlara @eraneldar @ldeserno

The Israeli government's targeting of academia is not incidental. Free academy is an obstacle for regimes that operate in an arbitrary, tyrannical way, to promote personal and sectorial interests. More in my column today in @ynetnews t.ly/c6Kg7

We need to understand subjective feelings better. Computational models can help.
Great commentary by @StePalminteri @RomaneCecchi on three (!!) new reviews on models of subjective feelings in NBR inc. our own.
A great intro to this exciting new field! authors.elsevier.com/a/1h5bP…

We're hiring! A fully funded 2-year postdoc to study the computations we use to think, feel, learn, & plan.
To find out more about our research, take a look at our webpage at sites.google.com/site/eldare…, and feel free to contact me for further information.

delighted to feature this excellent work in #psynomCABN
Why are biases common in reasoning? #psynomCABN paper @paul_b_sharp @FradkinIsaac @eraneldar propose it's not just because we rely on heuristics to simplify decisions–biases might come from complicated forms of inference. Post by @kllycttn @PillaiRaunak

A new Science paper found dopamine implements learning of *backward* predictions in rodents @vijay_mkn. In 4 preregistered studies (n=1201), I and @eraneldar find humans also learn these & adaptively switch their learning and planning direction 🧵(1/n) psyarxiv.com/wdbg4
