Thank you for this endorsement my mentor and first boss, Senior @cobbo3! Rt. Hon @ObothOboth's mission of a people-centred parliament is on course. We await your wisdom and objective analysis in your sacred spaces when your ear picks something on one of the parliamentary grounds soon!
Witchcraft in Uganda Parliament After All: Speaker Oboth-Oboth Has Cast a Spell of Good Manners So it’s true after all: one individual can make a difference. Lawyer Jacob Oboth-Oboth is Speaker of Uganda’s 12th Parliament. A low-key man by temperament, he gave little hint of how he would “rule”, and his start was worrying. At a thanksgiving service on June 8, he spoke of rumours of witchcraft and supernatural manipulation in Parliament, declaring that his faith made him immune to dark forces. Here, it seemed, was yet another juju-obsessed politician. At the same service he paraded his wives, raising fears of polygamous drama to come (although editors were probably silently hoping such drama would bring good ratings🤣). Perhaps we had simply been conditioned by the theatrics of his erratic, volatile and extravagant predecessor, the one and only Anita Annet Among, who was felled spectacularly by the army chief, Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, and his Patriotic League of Uganda brigade. Oboth-Oboth has bucked the trend. An unusual calm has settled over Parliament. Legislators are more serious and thoughtful, and the tantrums are gone. The Speaker talks softly, is remarkably tolerant of the Opposition (whom Among hounded and humiliated at every turn), and has said the right things about freedom. Perhaps he simply hasn’t been tested yet. President Yoweri Museveni has not yet tabled an amendment pushing the 2031 election back to 2033, or asked for a $750 million bailout for a political crony to go through without debate. When that day comes, the mask may slip and the fangs come out. For now, though, he has shown how much difference civility, democratic accommodation, and simply not being foul-mouthed and arrogant can make. Now, if he can only get rid of that colonial Speaker’s wig.

💬 ‘We are so intentional in everything we do. We are one of the very few federations on the African continent that are doing what we are doing. If you ask me, there are not more than six that are doing what we are doing. We are participating in every official competition for national teams that CAF and FIFA put on.’ FUFA President Hon. I wish to congratulate the @UgandaCranes for a spirited result last night against Tunisia. It is a result the team can build on for the next game against Libya. On the same note; I wish to call upon all Ugandans to join the Uganda Cranes on Tuesday, 29th September, 2026 at Hoima City Stadium as Uganda takes on Libya in our second AFCON 2027 Qualifier.

Thank you so much Your Excellency for the commitment and support to this #AFCON2027 project that is going to change football in this country for good. On my own behalf and that of the football community we can not thank you enough. – at Kampala, Uganda
Today at State House Entebbe, I met with the CAF Secretary General, Samson Adamu, and the National AFCON Task Force, led by Prime Minister Robinah Nabbanja, who briefed me on Uganda’s preparations to co-host AFCON 2027 with Kenya and Tanzania. I directed the relevant institutions to move faster, particularly on infrastructure, training grounds, roads, airport facilities and accommodation in the upcountry host cities. We must be ready on time and to the required standards. I will also engage my counterparts in Kenya and Tanzania on the proposed single visa arrangement to ease movement during the tournament.

HISTORIC AGM MOMENT for Ugandan football 🇺🇬 At the 13th Annual General Meeting of the FUFA Super League Limited (FSLL) today in Hoima City, Chairman Dr. Arinaitwe Rugyendo delivered an address marking what he called "a truly historic moment" for our league. Here's the full breakdown. The headline news: for the very first time in the history of football administration in this country, Government has extended a direct subvention in support of UPL clubs. As the Chairman put it: "This is not a small thing. It is a turning point, and it deserves to be marked and celebrated as such." On behalf of the Board, Secretariat, Clubs and everyone who has laboured to build this league, the Chairman thanked FUFA, the Government of Uganda and every stakeholder who walked this journey with them — calling it "the fruit of years of engagement, patience and quiet persistence." Why does this matter beyond the money itself? The Chairman was clear: this subvention is a "stamp of pedigree" on the league. It tells the country — and the region — that the UPL is now recognised at the highest level as serious, credible and strategically important. And here's the real economic logic behind it: sponsors and investors take their cue from the confidence Government places in an institution. When the State stands behind a league, private capital follows with far greater ease and far less hesitation. This milestone also signals something deeper — that public confidence in how the league is administered has grown. Reforms in governance, club licensing, financial discipline and professional administration have been noticed, and trusted. That trust, the Chairman said, should translate into real fortunes for clubs: better sponsorship deals, stronger broadcast value, and a more attractive product for every partner wanting to associate with Ugandan football. But then came the warning, delivered plainly: "I appeal to every club, every Chairman and every Chief Executive in this room: do not abuse the Government subvention." Funds must go toward club administration, player development, facilities and staff welfare — nothing else. Here's the incentive on the table: the Chairman revealed he has "it on good authority" that if clubs show discipline, transparency and good behaviour with this money, the support will MORE THAN DOUBLE in the years ahead. His words on this were striking: "Let that possibility be the standard against which every shilling is spent... Let us not be the generation that closes a door that took over a decade to open." The meeting paused for a special moment of gratitude — a full standing ovation, with loud applause, for the Government of Uganda, the Ministry of Education and Sports, the National Council of Sports, and everyone who worked to make this intervention real. Top of the thank-you list: Her Excellency Maama Janet Museveni, Minister of Education and Sports, who the Chairman said "personally took interest in the plight of our league and personally ordered this intervention." Without her, he said, this day wouldn't exist. Chief Guest Dr. Dennis Mugimba was also singled out as "a key cog in this wheel of fortune," having worked tirelessly behind the scenes to move this support from idea to reality. The room gave him applause "in our usual style." Hon. Peter Ogwang, State Minister for Sports, was thanked for personally and unreservedly voicing the league's concerns before Government and in Cabinet at every opportunity he found. The National Council of Sports leadership — Chairman Mr. Ambrose Tashobya and General Secretary Dr. Bernard Ogwel — were also honoured for their tireless, patient work in securing the first subvention of its kind in Ugandan football history. One outstanding appeal: since the funds go directly to the 18 clubs, FSLL is pushing Government to also consider the "19th club" — the UPL Secretariat and UPL SACCO — which remain under-resourced. This request is already in writing before ministry officials. On governance: the league highlighted improved Secretariat staffing and welfare, capacity-building for admin staff, coaches and referees (via FAMACO), progress on club licensing, and a newly appointed in-house lawyer, Ms. Mercy Keinembabazi, handling all contracts and legal instruments. On the pitch: Vipers SC clinched the League title. Kitara FC won the Uganda Cup and earned a CAF Confederation Cup spot, progressing to the next round. Referee standards and match organisation both improved this season, alongside continued vigilance against match-fixing. On marketing: the department has been strengthened with seasoned sports marketer Mr. Saddam Bulaga, who has already lined up promising prospects with a potential coffee partner, a ministry, a beverage company and a beer company. Closing words from the Chair: "Let us go from this Annual General Meeting more united, more disciplined and more determined to build on this historic milestone." Thank you FUFA, Government of Uganda, and every stakeholder who believed in this league.
