@esaikawa, Amos Tai, and I curated a research topic on "Agriculture and Food Supply Challenges in a Changing Climate", and just published our Editorial. We hope it could spark more convos to foster a better food system. frontiersin.org/articles/10.…
So excited that my former undergraduate student Michelle Bardales’ paper is featured here! #plasticpollution is serious and we need to reduce #plastic burning in #Guatemala and other parts of the world! @Lisa_MThompson
Guatemalan rural households burn more plastics than urban households due to a lack of waste collection services. ~24% of PM comes from this source.
@esaikawa et al explore this in #ESATMOS. The work is #OpenAccess and can be read in full now ➡ bit.ly/3VP6RND
Please read this article about Ms. Louana Joseph on @CNN. I met her at the park in the Westside and she became our first study participant to assess children's exposure to heavy metals in #Atlanta. You see she has our study flyers in her hands. cnn.com/2022/11/30/health/af… 1/3
When we visited her home, she told me about her mold issues and we witnessed the problem. Louana and her adorable children - MJ and Marlie - need their home and belongings back. Please help her at this gofundme site, if you can: gofund.me/d924fc85 2/3
And to any Westside of Atlanta residents with children between 6 months and 6 years old, who are interested in participating our study, please check out our website and fill out the sign up form here: saikawalab.com/cechs 3/3

New paper in @EnvSciRSC! So super proud of Michelle Bardales, who's a graduate of @emorycollege & the first author of this paper. We found that 23.6% of PM2.5 & 2.4% of CO2 emissions in Guatemala may not be accounted for by excluding open plastic burning. pubs.rsc.org/en/content/arti…
The co-authors include the ECOLECTIVOS team @Lisa_MThompson, John P. McCracken, Mayari Hengstermann, and Alexander Ramirez! Thank you to all the study participants in Jalapa, Guatemala! And thank you to the funders @emoryghi @NIEHS
