One of the most striking statistics you can look at to understand the impact of the SNP is the huge drop in teacher numbers after they took office - it did enormous damage that is now affecting pupils in every corner of Scotland.
"In 2007, when the SNP came to power, Scotland had 26,573 teachers in secondary schools. By 2016, that number had fallen to just 22,957, a drop of nearly 15%. Today, even after a few years of increases, the figure remains below what we saw twenty years ago.
"That decline would have been damaging under pretty much any circumstances, but it happened at a time when a brand new curriculum was being introduced. To make matters even worse, CfE made greater demands of teachers (and pupils) than anything that had come before, while the changes to qualifications cut away at various progression routes available to young people.
"It was a perfect storm, and although the scale of the damage has been hidden from the public for many years, it is now becoming painfully clear."

There is a real problem with Mary Whitehouse bans like this.
1. Deeply tender people who have never watched pornography assume it's all sadistic and twisted, and that only absolute sickos would watch it.
2. These people moralise loudly in Parliament. They think evil men are into BDSM when it's actually more often women who are.
3. Parliamentarians who actually have watched pornography (76% of men, 53% of women) do not say what they think lest they become known as 'the porn mp'.
4. A majority of adults go without representation.
5. Bog standard face sitting or mild hand to throat stuff is banned through misunderstanding, moralising, and embarassment.
But this is all academic. Since the porn laws came in, no one watches pornography from UK IP addresses anymore, so these further restrictions are meaningless.

SNP MSP @alisonthewliss claimed an LDAN Bill would divert resources from important other work.
I asked the govt what resources had been diverted to work on independence over the years, which seemed fair.

This could easily capture parents who don't let their child wear a binder or go out dressed as the opposite sex.
