The value of the brain of an average X user is about -$100000.
How long before SI decides to completely scan all of our brains? Perhaps the greatest repository of information in the reachable cosmos is the set of all human brains with their deeply buried, partially forgotten, and half-confused memories. By correlating the data across all human brains, the SI could probably infer far more real truth than from any other source. Beware: our brains are valuable ore! Probably our pets and some wildlife, too.
Our own military pilots keep seeing things in the sky they can't explain. Not airplanes. Notdrones. Glowing balls of light that stop on a dime and take off faster than anything we've built.
You and I grew up calling them UFOs. Here's the part that will get you: the government finally admitsthey're real. They just won't tell us what they are.
I've been trying to crack this story for a good while now. What a former intelligence officer toldCongress, under oath...
Blockchains are criminal-friendly by design. I am probably the only Layer 1 developer trying to change that. But of course an industry that is dependent on crime to function did not take notice yet. :)

100% Cancer Remission Achieved in ALL Patients in Groundbreaking Study
Dr. Andrea Cercek, one of the lead researchers, said:
“It’s absolutely incredible ... We’ve certainly never seen this before.”
All 12 patients experienced complete rectal cancer remission after receiving dostarlimab, a monoclonal antibody.
This particular monoclonal antibody achieved 100% cancer remission without chemotherapy, radiation, surgery, or the toxic side effects that come with such therapies.
The authors wrote:
“All 12 patients (100%; 95% confidence interval) had a clinical complete response, with no evidence of tumor on magnetic resonance imaging ... and no cases of progression or recurrence had been reported during follow-up (range, 6 to 25 months after treatment). No adverse events of grade 3 or higher have been reported.”
How does this monoclonal antibody actually work?
Dr. Cercek explained that it essentially unlocks the body’s ability to heal itself.

Since many of you have asked me privately for introductory material on analytic philosophy after the Kripke post, I wanted to propose to you Michael Dummett's ''Origins of Analytical Philosophy'', a nice short read which requires very little technical knowledge, outside of the basics of logic, as the book focus on the history of the ideas found in analytical philosophy.
Yann backs me up again 😅

Saul Kripke, it's fair to say, is one of the most important analytic philosopher of the past century, and although many books were written as ''discussions and criticism'' of his ideas, it's a bit harder to find a good one which is closer to an overview of his ideas on metaphysics and philosophy of language.
In ''Kripke: Names, Necessity and Identity'' by Christopher Hughes (Oxford) you will find just that, and more!
The book is fairly short (259 pages), and requires basic knowledge in epistemology, metaphysics, linguistics and logic. Very well written. If you have struggled to understand Kripke, this is a great way in.
Check it out!

This paper answers why confident idiots run the world.
Cornell University published a psychological paper that explains every terrible boss, every loud influencer, and every broken corporate hierarchy.
It’s called “Unskilled and Unaware of It.”
they tested participants across logic, grammar, and humor to measure the gap between actual performance and self-perception.
And the results are wild.
participants scoring in the bottom 12th percentile consistently believed they were operating in the 62nd percentile.
they were not lying. they were literally incapable of recognizing their own incompetence.
the paper revealed a brutal paradox:
the exact skills required to master a domain are the exact same skills required to accurately evaluate your own competence in that domain.
if you lack the skill, you inherently lack the cognitive capacity to realize you are failing.
this creates a dangerous systemic loop.
the incompetent are blessed with absolute, blinding certainty. their brain protects them from their own ignorance, allowing them to speak first, demand authority, and never second-guess their decisions.
meanwhile, the actual experts suffer the exact inverse.
top performers in the study consistently underestimated their rank. because a task was easy for them, they falsely assumed it was easy for everyone else.
they hesitate. they obsess over nuance. they assume they have nothing unique to add.
we are biologically wired to confuse confidence with competence.
the loudest person in the room gets promoted, gets funded, and gets the microphone, not because they know what they are doing, but because they are physically incapable of seeing what they don't.
the only defense mechanism is building systems that stop rewarding absolute certainty and start demanding proof of work.

The most dangerous people are those who are rich, powerful, smart, and intellectually lazy, unwilling to critically evaluate whether or not what they think is true actually is.
Before reading, I would like to challenge Anil Seth to a duel. ⚔️
Spectacular Nature piece on why AI is not conscious and probably will never be.
Three arguments:
1) Intelligence is not consciousness.
Intelligence is about solving problems. Consciousness is about having subjective experiences.
AlphaFold can solve super difficult problems. By contrast, our brains performs complex operations entirely outside awareness.
Problem-solving and consciousness are two separate things.
2. Biology is essential.
Our brains are alive, down to every cell. Their activity is inseparable from the living tissue that produces it.
The idea that consciousness can be reproduced simply by running the right computations on silicon components who do not fight for their life is a very far fetching and, I would add, almost religious, assumption.
3) The physical organization may matter more than the computation.
According to integrated information theory, consciousness requires specific causal relationships between a system’s physical components.
The computer architectures running today’s AI lack this organization.
The comparison with AlphaFold is particularly revealing:
Almost nobody things AlphaFold is conscious, despite its inner working is very similar to an LLM
Why?
Because it does not speak.
LLMs do speak like us and therefore we fall into an illusion:
Since they speak like us, they must be like us.
But this inference is wrong.
LLMs are just a series of matrix multiplications.
They are not conscious, and they will never be.

"We've removed live internet access..."
Why were you testing malware-like agents with live internet in the first place?
Sounds pretty irresponsible.
Also after milking the "rogue AI" agent narrative for marketing you just going to admit it was weak sandboxing? Lol
Over the past several months, we have substantially hardened the security of our research training environment. We’ve removed live internet access for all frontier models during training and built an offline world for them to use instead—a cached version of the web where they can still learn to browse, search, and use applications.
On September 20, after a model exploited a DNS misconfiguration to find a way outside of this offline world, we paused frontier training to strengthen containment further. We assembled teams of agents, powered by our most cyber-capable models, and tasked them with finding weaknesses in our research environments.
While they found no route to the internet they could easily exploit while concealing their activity from our monitors, they did find zero-day vulnerabilities, virtual machine escapes, and hardware side-channels for communication between agents. We used their discoveries to further strengthen our defenses and contribute fixes to open-source software.
After strengthening our containment architecture, we resumed our frontier RL training and inference on October 1. We’ve reserved substantial compute for continuous red-teaming, and made high-compute red-teaming part of the safety cases we use to decide whether frontier training and evaluation can proceed securely.
