California ‘Butt Sniffer’ Arrested Again — Man’s Arrest History Tops 40 Bookings
GLENDALE, Calif. — Calese Crowder, 39, was arrested in Glendale on Friday, August 28, 2026, after police received reports of a man crouching behind customers and attempting to sniff them at two businesses.
Glendale police said officers responded at about 3:30 p.m. to a business in the 1500 block of West Glenoaks Boulevard. A similar complaint was reported at a Marshalls near South Brand Boulevard and East Broadway.
Investigators reviewed surveillance footage from both locations and identified Crowder as the suspect, police said. Officers later located him in the 100 block of South Brand Boulevard and arrested him on suspicion of violating parole. He was being held without bail, and the case was expected to be forwarded to prosecutors.
Jimmy Koh, manager of Big Sav Discount Store, told local media that a man crouched near an employee who was stocking shelves. Koh said similar incidents, including alleged attempts to sniff women near their buttocks, had happened at the store on two previous occasions.
Crowder is a registered sex offender and has a lengthy criminal record. According to records cited by authorities and news organizations, he had been booked in Los Angeles County more than 40 times between 2005 and August 2023, followed by additional arrests.
In August 2023, Glendale police arrested Crowder after an allegation that he looked into an occupied home where children were present. He later pleaded no contest and received 60 days in jail along with an order to participate in a sexual-impulse rehabilitation program.
California corrections records show previous convictions for robbery, burglary, attempted first-degree burglary and drug possession. He began a three-year sentence in July 2024 for attempted first-degree burglary and was released on parole in June 2025.
Crowder was subsequently arrested multiple times in 2025 and 2026 for alleged parole violations and similar conduct. Jail records show additional sentences of 135, 99 and 105 days.
