Remembering how thoroughly obnoxious Russell Brand was has made today even better. Peter Hitchens got this right.

This is not the hard problem. The hard problem is that physics explains the world in terms of structure and function--in terms of behavior of increasing complexity. But even very complex behavior and structure and function is just a fundamentally different thing from consciousness, which involves irreducible what-it's-likeness. Even after you've explained the behavior of every particle in the universe, there's still an explanatory gap--you still don't know what's being experienced.
the "Hard Problem" in a nutshell: 1. atoms aren't conscious 2. humans are made of atoms 3. humans are conscious 4. so at least one of 1-3 must be false Panpsychists say #1 is false Dualists say #2 is false Illusionists say #3 is false Materialists say #4 is false

It’s the usual problem; real scepticism is an uncomfortable position to hold, for it is based on uncertainty. A sceptic who is confident about their own opinion is not a sceptic by definition.
This is a good example of scepticism as inverted credulity, or at least excessively simplistic reductivism. I have my own doubts about ritual protection marks, and there’s a lot of rot talked about them, but we don’t know enough to dismiss them *all* a priori
