Democratic Ohio gubernatorial candidate Dr. Amy Acton was targeted by an armed man who charged toward her during a campaign appearance at the Canfield Fair near Youngstown on Sunday.
The suspect, identified as 38-year-old Patrick Havas, forced his way through the crowd and knocked several people to the ground, injuring multiple attendees. Authorities said he was carrying two pistols, a Taser and brass knuckles, though none of the weapons were drawn.
Acton was unharmed, and Havas was arrested at the scene. He faces two counts of assault and one count of disorderly conduct.
Actonโs campaign lauded law enforcement for its โswift and decisiveโ response and condemned the incident, stating, โThis kind of violence has no place in Ohio.โ
