Claude Code

Today is my last day at Cal AI.
Less than 3 years ago, I was sitting in meetings I didn't care about, reviewing PowerPoints that didn't matter, and wondering if I was going to waste my entire life never reaching my potential.
Today, I'm walking away from a company that changed my life forever.
It's hard to even put into words what I'm feeling right now.
When we started Cal AI, my goal wasn't to get rich.
I wasn't dreaming about an exit.
I literally just wanted to make enough money to quit my job.
I just wanted to bet on myself, that's it.
I just wanted to wake up every morning and feel like I was actually doing something with my life.
What happened next was beyond anything I could have imagined.
There were 20-hour workdays, weeks where I barely slept, days where I'd lose my voice from spending so many hours on the phone with influencer managers.
I remember spending Thanksgiving coordinating with influencers for a $25,000 giveaway while everyone else was enjoying the holiday.
There were countless moments where my entire life revolved around getting one more creator to post, one more campaign live, one more thing across the finish line.
And I loved every second of it.
Because for the first time in my life, I felt like I was exactly where I was supposed to be.
I wasn't watching the clock waiting to go home anymore.
I was looking at the clock wishing there were more hours in the day.
Fast forward less than 3 years and that simple ChatGPT wrapper has given me things I never thought possible.
I'm financially free.
My family is financially free.
And I'm now in a position to help change the lives of the people closest to me.
All because of an app that lets you take pictures of your food.
Life is insane.
But none of this would have been possible if not for the team around me:
@blakeandersonw you took a chance on me when you didn't have to, and I will spend the rest of my life trying to prove you right.
You're one of the best entrepreneurs I've ever met, but more importantly, one of the best human beings.
You have a heart of gold, and I've learned more from you than you'll ever know.
@henrylangmack you're genuinely one of the kindest and smartest people I've ever met.
You've shown me that you can be an incredible businessman without sacrificing being a good person.
@zach_yadegari I genuinely believe you're going to become one of the greatest entrepreneurs of our generation.
Your ambition is contagious, and I cannot wait to watch you take over the world.
@A1fiedickens15 you are the American dream. Watching how much you've grown has been one of the most rewarding parts of this entire experience. I'm so proud of you, and I know you're just getting started.
Dinesh, Fish and the entire MFP team, words cannot convey my gratitude. Whatever you need from me, for now and forever, I got you covered.
And to everyone else at Cal AI, I owe you more than I could ever repay.
I'd run through a wall for every single one of you.
It's funny.
Three years ago, I was terrified that I was going to waste my life.
Today, I'm terrified I'll never get to experience something quite like this again.
Your entire life can change in a matter of months.
You just have to be willing to bet on yourself. Safest bet you’ll ever make.
Thank you, Cal AI
One last thing: Move fast

Elon Musk stutters. Not occasionally. Consistently. In almost every interview and public appearance, there are moments where he pauses mid sentence for 3 to 5 seconds, searching for a word that his brain has processed but his mouth cannot produce. The pauses are long enough that interviewers visibly shift in discomfort. The audience holds its breath. The man who runs 6 companies simultaneously cannot always produce the next word in a sentence.
The speaking difficulty is not a performance. It is not a thinking pause (though he has those too). It is a genuine processing bottleneck between his thoughts and his speech. His brain operates faster than his verbal output system can manage. The thoughts are there. The words lag. The lag produces the stutter, the filler sounds, and the long silences that define his public speaking.
As a child in South Africa, the speaking difficulty was more pronounced. He was slow to speak. He was quiet in class. Teachers assumed he was intellectually behind. The boy who was reading the Encyclopaedia Britannica at 9 was perceived as struggling because his verbal output didn't match his cognitive input. The gap between what he knew and what he could say was the first version of a pattern that would follow him for life.
The irony is devastating: the man whose companies depend on public trust, investor confidence, and media communication is physiologically disadvantaged at the one activity that produces all three. Every keynote, every earnings call, every interview requires him to perform the skill his nervous system handles worst. He does it anyway. Poorly. Consistently. Without avoiding it.
He has never used a teleprompter. He has never used scripted remarks. He speaks live, stutters live, pauses live, and recovers live. The refusal to script is not bravery. It is authenticity pushed to a point that makes his communications team visibly nervous. The man would rather stutter through the truth than fluently deliver a script.
The most powerful communicator of the 21st century, the man whose tweets move markets and whose vision has redirected entire industries, cannot always finish a sentence without a 5 second pause. The words don't come easy. They never have. He says them anyway. And the world that watches him stumble through a keynote then watches him land a rocket and concludes that the stumble is what makes the landing believable. The man is not polished. He is real. The stutter is the proof.

Elon Musk's first child, Nevada Alexander Musk, died of sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS) at 10 weeks old. The baby stopped breathing. Justine Musk has described the loss as the moment that changed Elon permanently and irreversibly. He held the baby as it died. And then he went back to work.
Justine has written about the period after Nevada's death with a precision that makes the grief tangible. She described a man who processed the loss by refusing to process it. He did not take time off. He did not go to therapy. He did not sit with the grief. He returned to work and operated at full capacity within days. The external function was uninterrupted. The internal damage was never addressed.
She wrote that when she tried to talk about Nevada, Elon told her that dwelling on things that cannot be changed is not productive. The statement is logically correct and emotionally devastating. The partner who had just lost a child was told by the other parent that discussing the loss was unproductive. The word "unproductive" applied to the death of a 10 week old baby.
They conceived twins through IVF shortly after Nevada's death. The decision to have more children immediately was Elon's. The logic was the same logic he applies to everything: a loss was incurred. The response is to rebuild. Not to grieve. Not to wait. Rebuild. The twins were born 2 years after Nevada's death. The rebuilding was biological. The grief was unprocessed.
Elon has almost never spoken about Nevada publicly. When asked, he gives brief, factual answers without emotional elaboration. The absence of elaboration is itself the story. A man who can describe rocket physics for 40 minutes cannot describe the death of his first child for 40 seconds. The topic is the one system he cannot debug by talking about it.
14 children followed Nevada. Each pregnancy was rapid. Each child was produced with the urgency of someone replacing something that was taken. The question that nobody asks is whether the man who produces children at a rate that exceeds any reasonable parenting capacity is still, at some level, trying to replace the first one who stopped breathing in his arms at 10 weeks.
The grief was never expressed. The children kept coming. The companies kept building. The man who solves every problem by building moved to the next build before the last loss was processed. And 20 years later the loss is still unprocessed because the man who processes everything cannot process the one thing that processing cannot fix.

拡散モデルの発明者でもあるJascha Sohl-Dickstein氏(Anthropic)の講演『Advice for a young investigator in the first and last days of the Anthropocene(人新世の最初と最後の日々における若手研究者へのアドバイス)』を紹介します。
youtube.com/watch?v=3LZN2UUx…

If you LACK MOTIVATION as an app builder, read this
Pre-app (app not released yet):
You have taken the decision 99% in this world didn't: start entrepreneurship. You are ambitious and driven, you see all these 9-5 zombies around you and you refuse to follow the same path. Whether you just want money, or actually want to do something good for the world, you know your destiny lies in owning your own business. Money is power and money moves people. Be proud that you made the decision to start in the first place, 99.99999% didn't. You refuse to accept being mediocre. It's time to take action, endless thinking is your biggest obstacle here. Just DO something, anything, organize yourself. Brainstorm, plan, and execute. Set a rough deadline for yourself, like 3 months of app building until you decide whether you want to continue or not. But one thing is for certain, you are very ambitious at this stage and are willing to step in the unknown. This is commendable. You can be proud of yourself.
App released, $0 MRR:
You finally released your app. Most people are stuck engineering their app endlessly because they feel more comfortable with building than marketing. It feels vulnerable to open up to the world, but you realize you have to. You have to prioritize marketing and releasing a quick MVP. Without marketing, your masterpiece remains hidden from the masses. Very few people understand this like you. It's time to start spamming TikToks, monitoring the first little data that comes in and learn more about social media. Look at the 5 downloads you get per day, these are 5 real humans who took an interest in your app. Look at their behaviour, see where they dropped off in the onboarding and keep optimizing until you hit your first paying customer. Your first paying customer is inevitable with a good onboarding and a hard paywall. But the fact that you are getting any downloads at all should always be celebrated. These are real humans!
$1 - $2000 MRR
By far the most people quit here. This is the stage where you have to prove that your app is worth time and investment. You are making real money for the first time from something you thought was fictional a couple months ago. It's time to gather as much data as possible. Then, look at the data and see if this app is worth scaling. You realize you can only go so far with marketing organically. You need to invest money to make more money. Either through ads, UGC or some sort of automation. This phase starts to challenge you, because for the first time in your life you have to rely on factors outside of yourself. You realize you cannot do everything by yourself, a one-man-army is a weakness. The end of this the phase is where you start learning to think in systems and scale. This is the phase where you have to let go more, and step outside yourself. Put your ego aside and let the systems or freelancers do the work for you. It will be tough, but you already came so far. If you realize this, it's hard to believe you will stop here.
$2001-$9999 MRR
You started thinking in systems and created an infrastructure with ads, an automation system, a farm or a small UGC campaign. Look at what you've created; a whole ecosystem designed to turn $1 into $10. You understand consumer apps well, all that's left is to put more money into your system, optimize your funnel to perfection, experiment with more creative formats, and hit virality more consistent. Usually you have to pour in more money to oil the engine, but one thing is for sure, your app is a proven idea if your MRR is consistently above $2000. This is also the first time where your internet money feels real. It gets close or even surpasses your supposedly full-time job, especially in non-western countries. You start hating Revenuecat, you start hating Apple, you start hating Google and any middle-man taking a cut % of your revenue. You realize how large the difference between revenue and profit. You probably are writing contracts, tax forms and P/L statements for the first time. You are stepping in a whole new world inaccessible to the commoners, and it's inevitable that you will hit $10,000.
$10000+ MRR
If your MRR is consistent here, you belong to the elite, and realistically 99.9% will not get here. You are a real entrepreneur now and it's not just a small hobby anymore. Your parents and friends now see you as a big deal. People have massive respect for you, and now it's time to help other people too. X warps your perspective sometimes still, seeing so many people hit 100K MRR but remember this is social media. You keep comparing yourself with the finest entrepreneurs. Many people are frauds on here too, so comparing yourself with them is unfair to you. Be proud of what you have achieved. $10,000 MRR gives financial freedom in every country. Treat yourself on a holiday if you haven't already. Most advice including mine will not help you anymore and you probably have to look for advice from the 100K MRR legends. Either well, I'm happy you're here. If you are at this stage and you are not happy with your life, something is SERIOUSLY WRONG with you. You probably are too focused on material desires, and you should start thinking of your greater purpose in life; of what you actually want to do with so much money. You start realizing that money does not bring satisfaction in itself. If you are not happy at 10,000 a month, you wont be at 100,000 either. Keep it up, nothing can stop you at this point
