My 2nd Rare Wheatear of the day was Co. Durhams third Desert Wheatear showing incredibly well at Whitburn! Following records from 2016 and way back in 1955! The last was only a one afternoon bird so this one has been especially popular! Still time for another this autumn…
A two Rare Wheatear morning started with Cleveland’s third Isabelline at Redcar! Great to see as I missed the last one. An influx of this species down the east coast recently, so this one came as no surprise! Well done to the finder for flagging it up! @teesbirds1 @nybirdnews
The harsh reality of Migration. This Starling made it across the North Sea only to die at South Gare! Found on 20th Oct. Interesting it’s a colour ringed bird. Purple over Pink on R/Leg. Stavanger Museum, Norway, ring 7703949. Any help with info appreciated! @teesbirds1 @_BTO
News of a Siberian Rubythroat got me down to Yorkshire for the 2nd day running! With negative news I used the time to take in a smart 1st winter “Isabelline” Shrike at Out Newton. Looks like a likely Daurian Shrike? Cleveland of course still awaits its first…here’s hoping…🤞
Humes warbler just between huntcliff and warset hill @BirdGuides @nybirdnews
Long-eared Owl seen at St. Mary’s, Hartlepool Headland for less than a minute today before dropping out of sight. Three Brambling, two Redwing and a few Blackbird were the only other migrants seen around the gardens. Hopefully more tomorrow 🤞🦉@teesbirds1
A couple of photos of the Spotted Redshank seen on Saltholme West today. A year tick! I think I’m right in saying this is only the fourth Spotshank to be seen in Cleveland this year, which is very worrying…@teesbirds1
Yellow-browed Warbler still around the Borough Hall Gardens, Hartlepool Headland this morning but elusive @teesbirds1
Another poor shot of today’s Bairds Sandpiper taken from the road. This pic and the one taken by Martyn Sidwell appear to show scattered black feathers on the upper parts, so I think it could be an Adult? Also a pic of a more obliging Merlin from the hide. @teesbirds1
Appalling record shots of the Bairds Sandpiper at Saltholme today. A great find by @HairyDogsTail especially given the distance it was found at! Cleveland’s 6th record and 1st since 2012! Stilt Sandpiper next please…@teesbirds1
. @BirdGuides @teesbirds1 Think my report of the Lesser Yellowlegs might have actually been a Wood Sandpiper looking back at photos taken.
Lesser Yellowlegs still on the far back edge of Holme Fleet, Cowpen Marsh 09.55 with a couple of Ruff. Has now walked left out of sight. @teesbirds1
Going to retract my report of the Lesser Yellowlegs as looking back at the poor photos I took it may have been a Wood Sandpiper? Sorry about that! @BirdGuides
A few quickly taken record shots of today’s Lesser Yellowlegs from Saltholme. Cleveland and Saltholme’s 5th record following birds found Aug 2003, Sept 2003, Oct 2008 and Oct 2022. All initially found on the North Tees Marshes. Luckily I’ve managed to see them all! @teesbirds1
Two Pale Bellied Brent Geese on Seaton Snook tonight. Not what I was expecting to see in August! @teesbirds1
A lot of birds on Seaton Snook tonight. 1 juv Black Tern, 8 Roseate Tern, 1000+ Dunlin, Grey and Golden Plovers, 40 Knot, Barwits, 7 Whimbrel and 2 Brent Geese the highlights! @teesbirds1
Spotted and Pied Flycatcher from the Zinc Works Bushes this afternoon. Needless to say, the Spotted showed a lot better than the Pied. @teesbirds1
Wryneck from South Gare today. A very showy bird at times! I saw my first at the very same site 40 years ago tomorrow! @teesbirds1 @nybirdnews
Great to see a few migrants at South Gare this afternoon. Wryneck, Redstart and Garden Warbler all showing well. @teesbirds1 @nybirdnews
The 2nd juv Caspian Gull seen at Hartlepool Headland this morning, a more subtle bird picked up by @sidwemn at times looked quite obvious, yet have to admit I would have overlooked it! @teesbirds1
