Who not to invite to Thanksgiving: a sewer-clogging "fatberg." Please put your kitchen grease in a coffee can or in kitty litter and place in a trash bag instead of down the drain. When hot grease cools, this is what it does in your pipes.

📚 Blueprint 101 📚 Watersheds are areas where all fallen water runs to the same spot. In Central Ohio, our waterways eventually reach the Ohio River, then the Mississippi, then the Gulf of Mexico. When we protect water quality, it has effects all the way downstream.

In lieu of spray or pellet fertilizers try adding a layer of compost to your garden or lawn! It has the same nutrients as fertilizer, but it also helps your soil hold more water and promotes bioactivity in the soil. No compost? Mulched leaves will turn into compost over winter!
Overusing fertilizers and pesticides can harm our waterways. Consider organic alternatives or native plants for a healthier garden and cleaner water.

As an organization that reads “The Lorax” to several hundred Franklin county children each year we encourage everyone to take this special opportunity to “speak for the trees”!
We need your input! Did you know Columbus is strengthening its protections for public trees like street trees & park trees that grow on City-owned property? Read the proposed code language & comment on these proposed public tree code changes through 9/22: bit.ly/3258rEs.
