Looking forward to @SHInstitute's Cultural Responsive Education conference starting tomorrow. Tons of great presenters: conference.sealaskaheritage.… #OurCulturalLandscape
A number of points in this podcast land with me: learning is better together; and communities should be in order before opening schools. “Across the world, no country with infection rates as high as the US, has tried to reopen schools.” nytimes.com/2020/07/22/podca…

Just got off the phone with our edu Zoom rep. She's been working 18-hour days including Saturdays and Sundays since March 5th.
Dear everyone in the world. Put your contact phone number in your email signature. Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.

Tiktok is the most entertaining thing I've watched on "TV" lately. Altho I swipe past any "like for part 2" ones—too desperate!
Before you tell students not to use fake Zoom backgrounds make sure you understand the reason. Not everyone has a house they want to show. #MaslowBeforeBloom #akedchat

Between meetings I walked past my kid while she's in Zoom math class. She had her phone out, just below the laptop's camera. "Are you supposed to be on your phone in class?" "No." "Then why are you?" "Because <friend> sent me something on Instagram to check out. #akedchat

Teachers looking to deliver content over video/webinar: Resist the urge! Flip it instead. Spend the time to prepare asynchronous short videos, G-Docs, digital handouts, and use that precious in-person live time for discussion, analysis, and building community. #aklearns #akedchat

GooseChase scavenger hunts during COVID-19? @christinahum44 and @chelsea_hurst1... Have thoughts about getting students outside with hunts they do individually (or with family), but competing with their class/school? I wonder about safety rules—gloves, masks, distance?
Offline Chromebook apps. Here's a two-pager with details for teachers and students using Chromebooks offline, including a list of apps that work without Internet connection. bit.ly/chromebook-offline #akedchat

Giving students a persistent chat room they can bookmark is a cool way to let them "hang out" and maintain classroom community. Slack and Discord aren't FERPA compliant, but Hangouts Chat is. Here's a one-page how-to: bit.ly/hangouts-chat #aklearns #akedchat

Students can use their laptop/Chromebook camera to insert a pic of their work directly into a Google Doc. Makes it easier for T’s to give feedback than a pic via text. Could also have S’s insert pics of their work into a communal gdoc to help each other out. #aklearns

After you watch the Germs video I shared the other day, watch this interview with Dr. Fauci. #hunkerdown youtu.be/8A3jiM2FNR8
This video shows where cellphones from a Ft. Lauderdale beach dispersed across the US after spring break last week. #hunkerdown
Want to see the true potential impact of ignoring social distancing? Through a partnership with @xmodesocial, we analyzed secondary locations of anonymized mobile devices that were active at a single Ft. Lauderdale beach during spring break. This is where they went across the US:
