In March 1971, Boca Juniors hosted Peru's Sporting Cristal at La Bombonera in the Copa Libertadores. The match would never finish. Instead, 19 players were sent off and 16 arrested after fouling became progressively more violent. Punches and kicks were thrown, and Boca captain Rubén Suñé attacked a Cristal player with the corner flag. The brawl later became known as the Stalingrad of Football.
