my unpopular opinion is that ChatGPT apps are the best distribution play rn we spent last month shipping these for agency clients and... +50-200% on income those apps were already doing just you literally get an access to ~900M weekly users for free + you're not struggled with onboarding, since it's built on top of ChatGPT and for user who never used your product, much easier to get in via gpt interface same product, same pricing, just new way of using your product and the fear that OpenAI just clones you is backwards cloning your niche is the ONE move that costs them more than it returns... they'd rather buy you and ship it out of the box here's exactly how to launch it: 1. pick a workflow the client already gets paid for > not a new idea > an existing paid workflow with proven demand 2. build it as an MCP server > streamable HTTP on public HTTPS, usually at /mcp > that server is the whole product surface > UI is optional, tools come first 3. name and describe every tool like the model is reading it, because it is > action-oriented name, a human title, a description of when to use it > accurate annotations and a real input schema > that metadata is what decides whether you get called at all 4. add the UI after the tools already work > expose it as an MCP resource with a ui:// uri > set the type to text/html;profile=mcp-app > your built js gets inlined into that resource and runs in an iframe 5. connect it at chatgpt.com/plugins and break it yourself > plus button, add custom MCP server > paste the url with /mcp, create as a plugin > run MCP Inspector first and catch the schema errors there 6. submit at platform.openai.com/plugins and overprepare > a zip of the built plugin and publisher verification > a privacy policy url, no privacy policy means no review > 5 positive and 3 negative test cases > release notes and a demo video for the reviewer > a domain token hosted at /.well-known/openai-apps-challenge 7. keep billing on YOUR backend > OAuth 2.1 into the account system you already have > enforce authorization on every request, not through the model > there is no revenue share > the plugin is the channel and the MRR stays yours that's absolutely free traffic and by some reason most of products skip it... the guy below is a good case which shows real efficiency of this approach (he literally made around +$40k monthly income)

Sundae Lane is a two-person Shopify agency. Their clients kept asking for native bundling, but auth, webhooks, and hosting stood in the way. Gab tried building from scratch 3-4 times. Then they tried Gadget. Anthony, co-owner: “It was literally later that afternoon that I was building an actual app.” The result is Biscuits Bundles, built on Shopify’s cart transformation API. It earned a featured spot on the Shopify App Store, a 30% growth spike with zero issues, 500+ merchants, and the Built for Shopify badge. Read the full story: gadget.dev/blog/sundae-lane-…

Shopify handles routine returns. The exceptions still live in email threads and spreadsheets. One merchant spent 35 hours a week managing them. CasePilot Returns gives those exceptions an owner: a shared case with context, an assigned team, and the tasks needed to resolve it, right inside Shopify admin. Built by @marcalzapiedi with Gadget: Shopify APIs + Polaris on the front, Gadget backend handling policies, cases, and team assignment underneath. The goal wasn’t to replace Shopify’s returns. It was to add a case-management layer for the ones that need human review. Check it out → casepilot-returns.myshopify.…

Victoria Garland was a Shopify theme agency. Custom app dev? Off the table. The setup alone (auth, database, webhooks, hosting) ate 4-5 months before a single feature got built. Then they found Gadget. First app: 2 months. Second: under a month. Third — JourneyGlow, syncing Shopify + Google Maps into an interactive storefront widget, went concept to production in 1 week. Now custom apps are 50% of their revenue. "Our apps are both born and survive basically because of Gadget." Alex Massaad, CTO Read the full story → gadget.dev/blog/victoria-gar…

b/ackcode had never built a Shopify app before. Then a luxury watch client changed the scope halfway through the project — and gave them 3 months to connect a complex 3D configurator to Shopify. They used Gadget to get there. → 70% fewer development hours → 300 retail locations connected to online shopping → A production-ready Shopify integration shipped on time → 2+ years of operation with minimal maintenance Customers can now start designing a $20k+ watch in-store, save the configuration, and finish buying online — or do the reverse. And for b/ackcode, one seemingly impossible Shopify project opened up an entirely new line of business. gadget.dev/blog/blackcode-ga…

What happens when @Shopify app development goes from months to weeks? For Tanmay Kejriwal, it turned a side project into an agency. After switching to Gadget, he went from wrestling with OAuth, databases, and deployment to shipping production-ready apps 5x faster. → Projects went from 2–3 months to 2–3 weeks → Co-founded Shopvana with more inbound than they could take on → Grew Editify to hundreds of paying customers, then sold it → Ran apps for months without touching the infrastructure Less time maintaining the stack. More time building things merchants will actually pay for. Read the full story 👇 gadget.dev/blog/shopvana-suc…

Exactly, every integration adds another thing to maintain. Keeping it all in one place means less context switching and fewer moving pieces.
Building the app is usually the easy part. Connecting everything around it isn’t. @gadget_dev brings your backend, database, APIs, auth and hosting into one platform so you can spend more time building features.

Most AI support agents break down the moment a question isn't answered in the docs. We built Gizmo to go deeper. Each support ticket gets its own isolated sandbox with access to our codebase, debugging tools, logs, traces, and analytics. So agents can investigate issues, not just link documentation. Human-reviewed. Context-aware. Built for real support. How it works 👇 gadget.dev/blog/how-to-build…

Traffic spike during a flash sale? Your app shouldn’t fall over because of a rate limit. Gadget’s Surge feature lets apps temporarily scale past their normal limits during high-traffic events like BFCM without changing plans. Opt in, scale automatically, and only pay for the extra compute.

Shopify just introduced a major upgrade to webhooks in developer preview. Instead of receiving massive payloads for every event, you can now define a GraphQL query and receive only the fields your app actually needs. Less compute. Less processing. Lower costs. Spent weeks wrestling with OAuth and Heroku just to ship a simple Shopify app? There’s a better way. When Tanmay (@tkejr_) tried building his first Shopify app for a friend, it turned into weeks of setup, scattered docs, and infra headaches. Postgres read metrics hitting terabytes? That’s usually normal. But if a small number of queries are reading disproportionate amounts of data, it may be time to optimize. Watch how Postgres handles reads vs. writes and why writes are often 1000x smaller👇
