the best unofficial pokemon game ever created. in 2017, a developer named pia carrot quietly released something pokemon fans had been dreaming about for 20 years: pokemon orange, a fan game built on pokémon crystal. it looks like a gen 2 game, but it's set on orange island, the tropical region from the anime that never got a game of its own. you start as a kid from valencia island, tasked with delivering the mysterious gs ball to professor oak while taking on the orange crew. what made it special was that it introduced mechanics most official games didn't have yet at the time: 1) reusable tms 2) the physical and special split 3) tropical forms 4) pinkan berries that turn your pokémon pink permanently you can also catch the crystal onix, and you can surf between islands right from the start. once you beat the main game, a post game story unlocks based on the pokemon 2000 movie, featuring lugia and the legendary birds.
