Here's a pic of the Jazza figure, as promised. I have three left (two still sealed in pack) plus a couple of others I painted using my awesome Warhammer skillz... which are buried in a box in my garage in similar style to the Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark.
35 years ago, Mega Drive F-22 Interceptor was Mean Machines' cover story. It scored 93%. Other top reviews: SNES Ghouls 'n Ghosts 94%, Mega Drive The Immortal 90% and Toe Jam and Earl 87%, SMS Super Kick Off 96%, and NES Digger T Rock 89% and Power Blade 88%. Lots of good stuff!

35 years ago, the Master System was being eclipsed by the Mega Drive. However, Sega's older system still had more than a few goodies up its sleeve - largely thanks to US Gold. Super Kick Off, Gauntlet, and Impossible Mission were especially good.

Here's a great snapshot of the console games on offer in autumn 1991. This small south east chain of computer game stores had a pretty good stock of mostly official games, but could also get you import games if you wanted them.

40 years ago, Tecmo's classic throw 'n slash platformer Rygar was working its way into European arcades. Original Japanese flyer on the left; US version right. Personally I think it's no contest between the two; I'll take the brandishing-lopped-off-demon-head version thanks.

Ozzie mates! You can buy me book from here and it won’t spend months being shipped halfway around the world like we used to have to do with my old mags.
We’ve got the awesome Games of a Lifetime book by @bitmap_books & @JazRignall is back in stock: pixelcrib.com.au/products/th… It’s coffee table book that’s almost a time machine for some of the most outstanding and influential games of all time #gamingculture #booktok #retrogaming

35 years ago I was having fun with Mega Drive Pac-Mania. The dot-gobbling concept was a decade old at that point, but it was still fun - and the crisp graphics and excellent sound made it a joy to look at and listen to. A simple, old-fashioned, but very fun arcade game.

40 years ago, ZZAP! featured this somewhat weak composite cover (because resident artist Oli Frey decided he didn't want to paint one this month). Top reviews: World Games 98%, Dan Dare 94%, Sanxion 93%, Trivial Pursuit 91%, and Alleykat 89%. A small, but very decent selection.

40 years ago, Commodore were planning pointless C64 RAM expansions while their forthcoming Amiga 500 was a good idea, showing that if you throw enough crap against the wall, something will eventually stick. And despite denials, BT were indeed trying to sell their game labels.

40 years ago, the third in the popular compilation series They Sold a Million hit the streets - but felt like diminishing returns compared to the two previous packs. You'd certainly have some fun for your money, but these games had aged quite badly and were okay at best.

40 years ago, Elite was advertising Space Harrier and Scooby Doo. Space Harrier was released just before Xmas but not sent to mags so reviews appeared afterwards. No surprise: It was shite. As was C64 Scooby Doo ('tho it was much better on Spectrum/Amstrad).

Atari over engineered there pinballs to the point where they thought it was a "great idea" to put the boards in the bottom of the Playfield rather than in the back box. The result from this was dirt getting even past the black cover shown and lack of fuses which resulted in fires

Here is an example of a racing game before video monitors in games were invented. This is all electro mechanical and moves on a sheet with a lamp.

So today I got to meet the incredible Graham McGuiness of Australia who runs the YouTube channel the goat shed which basically I used in my early learning on how to fix pinballs. I finally got to meet him and his sidekick Spanky. Can't tell you how thrilled I was!
