INDUSTRY deserves so much more love. HBO’s cutthroat finance drama turns trading floors into psychological battlegrounds, where ambition eats away at people’s morals and every bad decision feels one step away from disaster.

Amadeus was a turning point in my relationship with Cinema. Like all of the greatest films in the history of Cinema, Amadeus changed my expectation of what this form of art is capable of doing. The performances, especially from F. Murray Abraham, are all incredibly memorable. The story, about a man who longs for greatness but is always a few steps behind it, is timeless. But the thing that always stays with me most about this film is the music. Mozart’s music is impossibly great. This film will always be a reminder.

THE LEFTOVERS (2014–2017) never tries to explain the unexplainable. It follows people rebuilding their lives after the world stops making sense, finding something devastatingly human in their grief, faith and desperate need for answers that may never come.

Christopher Abbott opens up about the new Netflix adaptation of John Steinbeck's ‘East of Eden’ and what it says about good, evil, and hope.
“[Adam] became the father to his children like his father was to him. All of a sudden, life, I think, for him went by like that without even noticing it. And I think that's sort of like the devastating realization for Adam. It's heartbreaking and very, and really, you know, poetic and allegorical. It's epic.”

I miss spy thrillers like Spy Game (2001). No world-ending threat, no superhero-level action. Just intelligence officers, political manipulation and people making impossible decisions. Tony Scott knew how to make all of that genuinely exciting.

ENTOURAGE turned the fantasy of making it in Hollywood into a comedy about fame, excess and four friends trying to navigate an industry where everyone wants something from you. The cameos were great, but the friendship at its center kept it going.

SIX FEET UNDER (2001–2005) begins every episode with a death, then spends the rest of its time exploring how the living struggle to make sense of it. Few shows have captured the messiness of family, grief and being human with such honesty.

The Godfather has one of the most memorable opening scenes in the history of Cinema for a number of reasons. Not only is it our introduction to Marlon Brando as Vito Corleone, it’s an introduction to Brando’s overall spontaneity - grabbing a cat off the floor of the set without any real forewarning. It’s not only that, this scene demonstrate Mario Puzo & Francis Ford Coppola’s optimism about America as a whole. The Godfather is a story about family but it’s also a story about The American Dream. This scene sets that stage perfectly.

I love how A History of Violence pulls off this scene. Tom Stall looks like the last person you’d expect to do something like that, and then Viggo Mortensen completely changes how you see him. It’s a side of Tom nobody saw coming.

Tom Cruise really climbed that cliff himself for Mission: Impossible 2 (2000). With only a safety harness, he performed the terrifying stunt on a real rock face. Director John Woo was so nervous he admitted he couldn't even watch.

True Romance is one of the only times Quentin Tarantino wrote a film but didn’t direct it. The result? A masterful film directed by Tony Scott. Who’s to say that won’t be the case again in a few weeks? Tarantino put the keys in David Fincher’s hands this time, a director equally as reliable as the late, great Tony Scott. I’m excited.

TASK (2024– ) is one of HBO’s best shows in recent years. A workplace comedy that turns the chaos of an office into something genuinely unpredictable, with sharp writing and characters who make every episode feel like a disaster waiting to happen.
