sure, expand it to 24 teams...
but you'll NEVER take away our memories.
2006-2023 (the most MAGICAL era of college football)
Some Whiteout thoughts that maybe some others are thinking about too in lieu of another loss by the program that makes a fanbase that is continuing to show up, not look like they create a tough enough environment anymore...
First off, been lucky to be at a lot of big stadiums for big games in football, but also some of the biggest sporting events in other sports... The Whiteout is always the best SPECTACLE and is electric...The crowd and fanbase has done its job over and over of making a statement, and I fully believe still has an impact in these big games...to an extent. Unfortunately, the actual FOOTBALL PLAYING part of things hasn't lived up to the same standard that the fanbase has created to the extent that a fanbase can on its end.
With this, and I'm saying this as someone who has been to every Whiteout except 1 since its inception vs ND in '07, I do wonder if within our program and honestly the PSU administration, the Whiteout has become bigger than the actual football game itself. The same way The Kentucky Derby is about the pomp and circumstance and generally less about the actual 2 minute Run For the Roses.
The point of the Whiteout is to impact the game in a way to give PSU an advantage against the toughest teams(and to recruit, this is not lost on me). I think it does that still, but I'm worried it won't always do that and be that way and it will turn more into a holiday on the calendar for us in the fanbase and something the school's Athletic Department takes for granted. I'm worried the choreography of it all and all the themed games has surpassed the point of the Whiteout in the first place. WHICH IS TO HELP THE TEAM WIN(back to the recruiting part, if you don't ever win, it won't matter how cool the stadium looks). This means, make it less like a pop concert and more like a hostile environment. Play less 14 year old Justin Bieber and more Guns N Roses, or hell, maybe let our band play over the pop garbage at times? It just feels unserious at times and that the Administration and Athletic Department has lost the plot.
I'm worried that the Athletic Department looks at 114K in the stands, everyone in White, engaged at every moment, and sits back with satisfaction that they did their job...To be clear, they are not doing their job right now. So with that, I think in order to not cheapen what is the single greatest spectacle and show in sports, created by the fans, not the actual team, until the program and Athletic Department can earn it again, we save the Whiteout for the biggest games when Penn State is back on the biggest stage not just a date on the calendar set months ahead of the season. From a different angle @LandonTengwall sort of touched on this in his thoughts on his channel earlier today in a different fashion, but I think it brings home the same point. What if we schedule the White Out in July for Michigan in late October but both teams are 3-3? Is it really fair to this fanbase to diminish the product that WE have showed up for time and time again to a game between 3-3 teams? Our top 5 attended games, all Whiteouts, all losses. As @swissdau said, it's turning into a humiliation ritual. It's not fair to the fanbase to spend a Grand+ to travel, buy tickets, put on a show, and the program not give us SOMETHING back. And maybe next year we're back, but don't schedule the Whiteout until you know the game is going to be on a stage worth the Whiteout appearing.
That may mean calling for it 2-3 weeks in advance. Or maybe not at all in a season. @JoshPateCFB once asked, why not have 2 of them in a season if the moment calls for it? It should be a weapon that us fans bring to opposing teams, not a continued badge of honor for every time that walks into our house and beats a program and Athletic Department not worthy of what we're bringing. You just watched 114K people walk into a game to support a team that just lost to Northwestern by 3 touchdowns. 3rd largest crowd EVER to watch a college football game.
This is by no means going at our current staff or Coach Campbell. He was thrown into this and needs our full support to get the guys in that he needs to get the program to where we want it. My concern is I'm not totally sure the Athletic Department is actually serious enough about what it will take to win at the level this fanbase deserves and sometimes thinks all it takes is all of us lining up, spending money, and wearing white to win. Clearly, that is not the case...
Penn state losing to a ranked team in the whiteout game in primetime in front of the whole country 🤦🏼♂️

The Blue Bus: A Penn State Football Podcast will be live from Titan Hollow in Bellefonte tonight at 6:30
@garrettmb and the gang will be previewing PSU’s game against USC
Feel like we've seen this so much the last decade...Super Nino, Shear, Mid-October, doesn't matter. These storms moving with the shear vector and with very warm SSTs will more likely than not get going in the Gulf.
Also Google Deep Mind is the tropical forecasting model king now...
Setting O/U on Isaias pressure at 962.5MB on first pass for next recon tonight…
What are you taking?

Wow. 10mb drop in extrap MSLP in the last hour with the first pass of the new recon. Isaias is starting to get going.
Get ready for a wet and windy Saturday in the SEC as what will be Hurricane Isaias impacts the Southeast.
Still 5 days out but gusts 40-50MPH and several inches of rain possible leading up to and during the MASSIVE Georgia @ Alabama game...
Lost in everything for PSU and given the current roster makeup/deficiencies. I think we probably all underestimated how devastating the losses of Max Granville and Koby Howard are/were. You can't lose your best playmaker and your best pass rusher and just be okay when you're as thin as PSU is.
With one or the other I fully believe we beat Wisconsin. With both I think the NW game is probably different too.
Also credit to MC on not using these injuries as an excuse because he has every right to.
