In this excellent podcast (link at the end of the thread), Ari Emanuel happens to mention by name the key investors behind Skydance and TikTok USDS, and it reminded me that the industrial logic behind a deal / partnership between the two companies is sound. 1/13
I have wondered if AI subscriptions would eventually crowd out streaming subscriptions. Given Musk's involvement in Skydance, maybe we see a Grok / Skydance bundle in the future. "Finish work faster, then watch" ... agrees w/ Ari Emanuel's view of ⬆️ leisure time = ⬆️ ent consump
Perhaps Starlink will repurpose CBS stations' "beach front spectrum" (a term I stole from @John_Hempton)
Funny enough, Netflix saw this future as far back as 2013

If the FCC approves the transition to next-gen TV, Skydance would have approximately 110–120 MHz to lease or sell to Starlink out of a total of 168 MHz. Sinclair’s base-case estimate is $2.50–$3.00 per MHz-POP. This would bring the base-case value to around $4–5 billion if sold.
"as linear TV is viewed less, the spectrum it now uses on cable and fiber will be reallocated to expanding data transmission. Sat TV subs will be fewer, and mostly be in places where high-speed Internet ... is not available. The importance of high-speed Internet will increase."
and here's the @John_Hempton link where he uses the term "beach front spectrum" for anyone who cares
(funny the things that stay with you over time. why did i remember this post? who knows, but thanks, john!)

Elon's in at "roughly the same time as" Jobs ... so did he buy at $12 on an ex-warrant basis? And did he take a piece of Larry's commitment?

I believe it’s the only linear network that Skydance could sell that de-leveraged the company
As far as I can tell it’s non core to the company’s strategy (they won’t agree)

In addition to a global output deal, I'm surprised there was no mention of a deal on the content library e.g. SpaceXSI receives exclusive rights to train on Skydance's library

The thread below is becoming consensus*
That can only mean one thing: expect a pivot from Netflix, and soon
*or my algo feeds me what I want to see. I really can't tell anymore
In the immediate post-DVD era, had you asked me if I'd miss Netflix if it disappeared, I'd unequivocally have said yes. Streaming video on demand felt like magic.
If you asked me the same question today, I'm not so sure I'd miss Netflix at all.

WSJ suggests change is needed at Netflix. Vacant spot at the top of the film studio after Lin's unfilled departure. Meanwhile NBCU's Langley oversees 2026's top performing film studio. Comcast's NBCU (incl. sports rights) is the answer, & before it is spun off with toxic Sky
Tensions at Netflix have been building for months with co-CEO Ted Sarandos lamenting about the lack of hits. Many newsy nuggets here (including that thel layoffs initially were going to be broaders) $NFLX W/@benfritz @JBFlint wsj.com/business/media/netfl… via @WSJ
