I’m deeply honored to be part of the amazing cohort of scientists awarded a 2026 @SimonsFdn Fellows-to-Faculty grant. I look forward to exploring how oligodendrocytes and myelin may impact developing circuits in autism, and I can’t wait to interact more with the autism community!
We're pleased to announce the 2026 class of our Fellows-to-Faculty program! This fellowship supports talented early-career scientists as they transition into tenure-track faculty positions in autism and #neuroscience research. See the new class: bit.ly/4yXUjrd #science #autismresearch

3. A new thyromimetic developed by Autobahn Therapeutics resolved endogenous remyelination deficits by improving oligodendrocyte gain in the first 1.5 weeks of treatment. In comparison, at the tested doses, clemastine had a smaller and protracted effect

4. Myelin loss delayed neuronal responses to visual stimuli. Thyromimetic treatment recovered these responses when myelin levels were still below those of healthy controls. But, the level of regeneration needed is not a simple threshold, also likely depending on timing of repair

Check out our new preprint, where we found some cool insights about remyelination. It was awesome to collaborate with @LindsayOsso, @denmanlab and Autobahn Therapeutics in this project!

One of my favorite things is that at least once a month a stranger will email me expressing how helpful they found this guide. It's been read 20k+ times since I've published it, and it's time to share it again. ubadahsabbagh.com/guide-to-p…

Lot of trainees were looking to meet prospective PIs in-person at SfN. Since it’s cancelled, can we start a thread of ppl looking to hire techs, students, or postdocs in the upcoming year?

Therefore, our results reveal a link between damage to Schwann cell mitochondria and loss of myelin. It is possible that c-Jun and mTORC1 may also be involved in the response to mitochondrial damage in other cell types.

Combined, the results of my two papers show that mitochondrial disfunction in Schwann cells activates the Integrated Stress Response (which is protective to myelin) and c-Jun and mTORC1 (which are detrimental to myelin maintenance).
