It's been a blast working with @abduzeedo again and helping build the design tool of my dreams. I've been using Ascente every day and it keeps getting better. It's been super fun for personal design projects and we'll be sharing more examples soon. Check it out at ascente.design
Check out ascente.design/ What started as an experiment quickly evolved into a tool that is bringing me joy creating visual art, motion design and AI experiments. Thanks to @gethyper who jumped in to collaborate and push it further. The goal was to question everything! For example, we stripped everything back to make the interface purely contextual and hyperfocus on the design :) It’s free and fun. Let me know if you want to test it!

I know no one uses Figma anymore, but my team just had a FigJam brainstorm and it was amazing. There’s nothing like a room full of creative people sharing ideas and building off of one another.

It's been so much fun working on this new design tool with @abduzeedo. It integrates really well with LLMs and you can still draw whatever you need by hand. Also I can't get enough of the VHS aesthetic, so here's a sample design with a little motion at the end. 📼 Get in touch if you would like to try it out!

Taste isn't just knowing what to do. It's knowing what not to do. Every time I design something with an LLM I spend so much time removing unnecessary elements. Claude, can you remove the badges? Can you remove that gradient? Can you remove the extra button? Etc. The machine will learn eventually, but we aren't there yet. The latest models still overdo it.

Now that I have a new site, I've got a place for my random coding experiments. Here's a visualization of the Collatz conjecture. Pick any positive whole number. If it's odd, triple it and add one. If it's even, cut it in half. Repeat until you reach 1. 27 takes 111 steps and climbs as high as 9,232 on the way. 28 takes 18. Every number anyone has checked finds its way back to 1, but no one has proved they all do. gethyper.com/2026-10-08-coll…

Lately I spend most of my time in GitHub Copilot and much less in individual apps. That shift creates two challenges for app builders: 1. Determining whether your app can stand on its own as a harness. If your app isn't a harness, you can assume it will mostly be used inside another harness. If it is a harness, you need to explain to users why it's the right destination for their tasks. A full-screen experience may not be enough to justify dedicated use of your app. 2. Staying relevant to your users inside another harness. It's only going to get easier for LLMs to build apps on demand and potentially copy what you've developed. Even an app that becomes a harness will lose some of its usage to other harnesses. So what is your app's identity, and how do users stay connected to it when you don't control the entire experience? Should your app become an agent that users call on by name, or will it be just another tool the harness picks from?
