Today we honor the extraordinary legacy of Cedric W. Dempsey '54, beloved Albion College alum, supporter, and former NCAA executive director/president. A true Briton who excelled as a three-sport athlete in football, basketball, and baseball, Cedric went on to serve as our men's basketball and cross country coach (1959-62) before becoming associate athletic director in 1965. For more than three decades, Cedric and his wife, June, remained loyal and generous supporters of Albion College, embodying the spirit of commitment that defines our institution. His remarkable journey from student-athlete to leader has not only inspired generations, but also catapulted the NCAA into the mega operation it is today. Dempsey was honored this past Sunday at the NCAA women's basketball championship for the impact he made on intercollegiate athletics, and will be recognized at tonight's game as well. Rest in peace, Cedric—your Albion family will never forget you.
