So much of the right these days just have a massive patriotism problem. This guy:
- is a tax exile (left long before this govt)
- hates his own country while complaining he doesn’t get big enough subsidies from it
- laments the hit to manufacturing driven by a Brexit he supported

The science says that a collapse of the AMOC ocean current would lower London’s average winter temperature to about 2°C, with once-a-decade extremes of -20°C, reducing the nation’s share of arable land through severe drying from 32 per cent to just 7 per cent.
In today’s @FT I argue that AMOC data is often contradictory and dispersed, meaning it is hard to evaluate — the UK should lead a coalition of concerned North Atlantic states in creating a new AMOC observatory. ft.com/content/48709691-168e…

Like Ukip and like Brexit, Reform is fundamentally a scheme hatched and backed by very rich men who are peeved that they don't run the country. Surely even their own voters have to grasp this eventually.
Do we always have to have someone from the telegraph on #Newsnight
Watching @Channel4News expose reforms dodgy fundraising I'm struck by how stupid reform are. Just a load of posh idiots.

Remember when the Panama Papers came out, revealed that all rich people in the world are part of enormous criminal network to dodge taxes and hoard stolen wealth in offshore accounts, and the journalist who reported was murdered by a car bomb, and no one was held accountable, and literally nothing happened.
Remember that there are 3 million files of documented evidence about powerful men and women who raped, cannibalized, trafficked, filmed, terrorized, tortured, hunted, and murdered 13, 14, 15 year children, and no one was held accountable, and literally nothing happened.
Remember that the United States literally kidnapped a sitting president of a foreign country and his wife and they’ve just been sitting in jail for the past 6 months, and no one was held accountable, and literally nothing happened.
Remember that there are two genocides—one in Gaza and the other in Lebanon—and that there are arrest warrants for war crimes and crimes against humanity, and no one was held accountable, and literally nothing happened.
This is what will happen—and continue to happen—if we do not unite to enforce international law.
What's mad about delays at
@LeShuttle is that they seem surprised there are people here. Surely, they have known exactly the number turning up today for months.

Hello @JeffBezos, since you question the results of our studies on the unfairness of the US tax system, please allow me to remind you of the main conclusions of our work, the most comprehensive research to date on this issue.
Yes, the United States has the most progressive tax system in the world. The top 1% pay 40% of taxes, the bottom 50% pay 3% of taxes. We can make it even more progressive by zeroing out taxes on the bottom half. It’s a small amount of the total tax revenue but very meaningful to people in this group.

still not quite over the fact that i watched 15 year olds get sued for millions of dollars for downloading twelve songs and now we all have to accept AI slop because every tech company in the known universe decided that IP laws don't exist now that they're inconvenient for them

This should be a bigger story.
Scientists are more concerned than ever that a critical Atlantic current will collapse soon and wreak havoc on North America and Europe. The Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation, or AMOC, is a massive conveyor belt of ocean currents that transports water from the tropics to the Atlantic.
Without it, severe weather would impact both regions at potentially devastating rates.
These scientists aren't just warning us about an environmental issue—they're sounding the alarm about a climate threat that could fundamentally rewrite how future generations survive on our planet.

There's been a lot of very hawkish, ex Tory defence ministers on the radio today, bemoaning the state of our armed forces.
Tom Tugendhat and Micheal Fallon to name but two, but all laying the blame at the feet of Keir Starmer.
This stems from a supposedly excoriating speech being delivered tonight by Labour Peer, George Robertson.
Or, The Rt Hon. the Lord Robertson of Port Ellen KT, to give him his full title.
Let's deal with the Tories first, specifically, Micheal Fallon, who was very reluctant to shoulder any of the blame for our current, lax state of the military, despite serving as Secretary of State for Defence for three years [2014-2017].
The current Tory trend, to complain loudly about today's issues whilst entirely ignoring the fact that they caused said problems, is frankly ludicrous.
They don't have a leg to stand on.
On to the protagonist of this tale, Lord Robertson.
What many in the media are not mentioning, is that he currently works for, among others, the Cohen Group — US based 'strategic advisory group' set up by William S Cohen, Bill Clinton's former Sec Def.
The Cohen Group advise the private sector on defence issues across the world. They aid with navigating defence procurement and government contracts for multinational corporations.
Company secrecy appears to be paramount for the Cohen Group, but we understand that they hold considerable sway within the US and UK defence sectors, both private and at governmental level.
So, while this impending attack on Labour's defence policy may be harsh, and certainly somewhat justified, there may also be an ulterior motive for Lord Robertson and his corporate interests in the USA.
As for the Tories touring the media to coattail on Lord Robertson's speech, they can get in the sea. Rank hypocrisy.
“Don’t explain your philosophy. Embody it.”
A quote by Epictetus that typifies the Tory trend of performative morality.

Four people have been on the back of a fiver before Churchill: Britannia, the Duke of Wellington, George Stevenson and Elizabeth Fry. Before that it was a lion and before that the back was blank.
This really isn't the major issue people are making it out to be.
