๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ฆ๐Ÿ‡ท๐Ÿ‡บ A UKRAINIAN SOLDIER SPENT 15 DAYS TRAPPED WITH THE ENEMY. THEY ESCAPED TOGETHER. For 15 days, a Ukrainian soldier lived in an underground shelter with an armed Russian who had threatened to kill him. By the time they emerged, they had shared water, played chess with pieces made from mud, and made an unlikely agreement that saved them both. Vadym Letunov, a 34-year-old infantryman from Odesa known by the callsign โ€œCartman,โ€ was serving with Ukraineโ€™s 118th Separate Mechanized Brigade when Russian bombardment destroyed his position. An explosion buried him beneath earth and fallen trees. Nearby, a young Ukrainian soldier on his first combat mission was gravely wounded. He told Vadym he could no longer feel his legs. Vadym watched him die. Injured, disoriented and unable to contact his unit, Vadym eventually found an underground shelter. He entered, hoping to rest, only to discover a Russian soldier pointing a rifle at him. The Russian searched him, interrogated him and threatened to shoot him. Then he pointed to a wooden cross he had made, bearing the words โ€œSave and Protect.โ€ โ€œCalm down. Iโ€™m not going to kill you. See? I have a cross.โ€ Vadym had little choice but to stay. What followed was an extraordinary 15 days of fear, hunger and uneasy coexistence. The Russian gave him water, socks and scraps of fabric for his injured feet. They spoke about their lives and the war. At one point, they began playing chess using pieces they fashioned from clay and dirt. But Vadymโ€™s condition was deteriorating. His feet were badly damaged, and one toe had turned black. The pain and exhaustion became so unbearable that he once asked the Russian to kill him. Then fog rolled across the battlefield. Hearing a drone overhead, Vadym recognized it as Ukrainian. He rushed outside carrying an improvised sign identifying himself, dropped to his knees and shouted toward the aircraft. โ€œCartman! Itโ€™s me!โ€ The drone dropped a radio. For the first time in more than two weeks, Vadym could speak to his comrades. He explained that a Russian soldier was sheltering with him and wanted to surrender. The Russian immediately had one request. โ€œOrder some food.โ€ So they did. Ukrainian forces eventually arranged an evacuation. Even as they approached the vehicle, Vadym feared the Russian might change his mind and shoot him. But the Russian climbed aboard. โ€œYou promised me theyโ€™d feed me and wouldnโ€™t beat me,โ€ he explained. Vadym emerged barefoot, barely able to walk. His first request to the Ukrainian soldiers who rescued them was simple: do not hurt the prisoner. Yet surviving brought little relief from the memory of the young Ukrainian who had died beside him. Vadym had lost a comrade he could not save. He had also brought back a Russian prisoner who might one day be exchanged for a Ukrainian held in captivity. For 15 days, two soldiers from opposing armies had shared a shelter, never knowing whether they would survive the next hour. In the end, they walked out together. And Vadym made sure the man who had once held him at gunpoint was treated humanely.

The most seductive thing these Italian actors do is stand still. Under Ludovica Rambelliโ€™s direction, they recreate Caravaggioโ€™s paintings with their bodies, draped cloth, everyday objects and a single cut of light. They build each scene before the audience, hold it, then dismantle it to become another. Think about the physical discipline that demands. Supporting another personโ€™s weight. Holding an awkward angle. Keeping a face suspended in grief while your muscles strain. That tension gives the paintings a disturbing intimacy.

LMAO! Piers Morgan has had enough of Katie Zacharia sounding like a robot. Piers Morgan: "Katie Katie Katie, timeout. Let's cut the crap here. You're sounding like a robot. Does Donald Trump got some program plugged into you?" "You're not gonna be betraying his loyalty and when it comes to loyalty, he did fire you after five days." Katie Zacharia: "You can couch it however you want Piers but I take issue with the way you are couching this and I'm not gonna continue relitigating it. I do not sound like a robot." Katie then goes back to sounding like a robot.

There is nothing more fascinating than watching someone stubbornly defend a delusion simply because reality doesn't match their expectations. Appearing on The Graham Norton Show, Rowan Atkinson shared a hilarious encounter at a Land Rover parts department where a stranger pulled him aside to inform him that he was the "spitting image" of Mr. Bean. When Atkinson gently explained that he was, in fact, the actor who plays the character, the stranger didn't believe him growing increasingly annoyed and convinced that Atkinson was just a delusional imposter going around impersonating him. โ€‹Itโ€™s a perfect reminder of how human psychology works. People don't judge situations by the facts in front of them, they judge them by the narrative already locked inside their heads. When reality contradicts a preconceived script, most people won't update their worldview they'll just assume reality is lying to them.

Never in my life did I think I'd see working class Americans get down on their knees in worship of elites. He's calling them broke while he's actively destroying their lives, and they're just taking it, laughing at themselves. What an embarrassment it is to be a Republican.

Just Trump at a rally full of working class Americans, being dismissive of them as not being able to afford to eat at Mar-A-Lago. Makes Marie-Antoinette seem empathetic
Trump: You'll be my guest at Mar a Lago. The problem is that for $5,000, the most you'll be able to buy is a hamburger and maybe a small dessert. I'm not even sure you could buy that. That's not a good place if you're price conscious

June 6, 1944. An American paratrooper jumps into Normandy in the dark and lands on the roof of a church. By the end of the war he had been declared dead, held a funeral he didn't attend, escaped the Nazis, and fought his way toward Berlin in a Soviet tank unit. His name was Joseph Beyrle. He's believed to be the only American soldier to serve in both the US Army and the Red Army during World War Two. Beyrle was from Muskegon, Michigan. He joined the 101st Airborne, the Screaming Eagles. His buddies called him Jumpin' Joe. On D-Day night his plane was hit by flak and he jumped early. He came down on a church roof, slid off, and lost his unit in the chaos. For a few days he fought on his own, blowing up a power station and cutting German communications. Then he was captured. Here's where it gets strange. A German soldier ended up wearing Beyrle's uniform and dog tags. That German was killed. When the body was found, the Americans identified it as Joseph Beyrle. The army told his parents their son was dead. His hometown held a funeral mass for him. His obituary ran in the local paper. Meanwhile, he was very much alive, being moved from one German prison camp to another. He escaped more than once. One time he and two other prisoners jumped off a train heading east. They thought they were heading for Russia and freedom. They got lost and ended up in Berlin, where they were caught by the Gestapo, beaten, and tortured. In January 1945, from a camp in eastern Germany, he finally made a clean escape. He went east, toward the gunfire. Toward the Soviets. When he found a Soviet tank unit, he walked out with his hands up, holding a pack of Lucky Strike cigarettes, and shouted the only Russian he knew. American comrade. It worked. He asked to join them. And they said yes. For about a month, an American paratrooper rode with Soviet tank crews as they pushed toward Germany. He used his demolition training. He fought. He was reportedly welcomed by a Soviet officer who was one of the rare women commanding a tank battalion. Then a German dive bomber attacked. Beyrle was badly wounded. He was evacuated to a Soviet hospital. Soviet Marshal Georgy Zhukov reportedly visited, heard his story, and gave him papers to get to the American embassy in Moscow. When he showed up, the embassy didn't believe him. As far as the US was concerned, Joseph Beyrle was dead. They held him under guard until his fingerprints proved who he was. He made it home to Michigan in April 1945. In 1946 he got married. In the same church where they'd held his funeral. Decades later, in 1994, he was honored at the White House by President Bill Clinton and Russian President Boris Yeltsin for serving both countries. And the last twist. His son, Joseph Beyrle II, grew up to become the United States Ambassador to Russia.
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
Joseph Robert โ€œJoeโ€ Beyrle had two sons. The elder son, Joe Beyrle II, served during the Vietnam War, but wasnโ€™t a US Ambassador. That was the other son, John Beyrle. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joseph_Beโ€ฆ
