Friends at conferences - please do not assume that the people that you talk to do not know anything. I just got told that I should read what Stanton et al found about pain. I. Am. Stanton.

Girl, Woman, Other is an astounding once-in-a-generation novel, and @BernardineEvari is a once-in-a-generation writer. Working on this book has been the great joy of my year and I am so overjoyed knowing what this win means for black women and black British fiction #BookerPrize

This by AfricanAmerican Emma Amos abt isolation also imo illustrates the relationship bw writer/characters Her self-portrait, FlowerSniffer, is hanging on a livingroom wall, watching the couple. She's inside the painting, within the scene, yet keeps distance, staying on periphery

This morning, I was thinking about how my dad -- who could see I was hellbent on being a writer -- wrote to Time magazine with a question to Toni Morrison and SHE RESPONDED. The clipping got lost long ago, but I Googled it and oh my god I'm treasuring this screenshot forever.

We are profoundly sad to report that Toni Morrison has died at the age of eighty-eight. “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” February 18, 1931 – August 5, 2019

Toni Morrison was a national treasure, as good a storyteller, as captivating, in person as she was on the page. Her writing was a beautiful, meaningful challenge to our conscience and our moral imagination. What a gift to breathe the same air as her, if only for a while.
