ALT Infographic titled “Mental Health in Elite Women’s Ice Hockey”, featuring a female ice hockey player. It summarises a study of 182 Swedish Women’s Hockey League players. 41.2% reported moderate or higher symptoms of at least one mental health problem: 29.7% sleep difficulties, 20.9% anxiety, 18.1% depression, and 5.5% suicidal intentions. 60.2% reported flourishing mental health; 40.3% flourished without moderate or higher symptoms and 19.9% flourished while also reporting symptoms. Lower psychological flexibility was associated with higher odds of anxiety, depression and sleep difficulties, and lower odds of flourishing. Higher perceived social support was associated with higher odds of flourishing and lower odds of sleep difficulties. The infographic asks how sporting environments can support athletes’ mental health and flourishing.
