A deep dive into the capacity for trees to physiologically adapt to drought reaches a sobering conclusion: Trees have little ability to change their inner hydraulic systems to accommodate increasing levels of drought as the climate changes. In PNAS: ow.ly/cSpy50ZFVIF

Today, we’re celebrating the people who make field research happen — the early starts, muddy boots, careful observations, unexpected discoveries and, of course, reaching new heights! 🔎🌱 #FieldworkFriday #IAVS #VegetationScience #Ecology #Fieldwork #PlantEcology #Biodiversity #Ecosystems #TreeClimbing #Epiphytes

Can we trust? Yes, we can trust estimates of species turnover, but estimates of changes in species richness are less reliable. Our new article in the Journal of Ecology: doi.org/10.1111/1365-2745.70… @jecol

There are many incentives baked into the academy that push people to try and bury their errors. I also believe that a fundamental part of humanity is our resistance to correction. I think it's good to try and fix that incentive structure. Promptly fixing errors is good for science. Resisting correction impedes the scientific progress. I don't know about you, but I think the Ctrl-Z Award is a small step in the right direction.
