The Great Pacific Garbage Patch is an area of the ocean where rotating ocean currents trap vast amounts of plastic debris like fishing nets and food packaging.
Microplastics appear to be changing the color of the ocean around the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, new research reveals — a shift so dramatic that satellites can see it from space. nbcnews.com/science/environm…

Microplastics can be eaten by marine animals and travel up through the food chain to be consumed by humans. They can also interfere with the ocean’s ability to move and store carbon.

"We will not give him. We will stay here. If the white man wants to come and destroy us that's on him." Hundreds protested in Canaan, north of Port-au-Prince, on Monday against the arrival of more than 2,000 Salvadoran troops sent by President Nayib Bukele to find four Salvadoran aeronautical technicians missing since an October 18 ambush. Two weeks after landing, the Salvadoran military launched its first major operation in the Cul-de-Sac plain, targeting the Chen Mechan and 400 Mawozo gangs — the latter led by Lanmo San Jou, accused in the technicians' disappearance. Community organizers called the operations a "threat against the population" and warned Canaan residents could be put at risk.

‘Radical’ comes from a Latin word meaning "root." Because roots are the deepest part of a plant, ‘radical’ came to describe things understood as fundamental or essential. ‘Radical change’ was a change at the root of a system.

I think there's a quiet grief in realizing that becoming yourself might mean disappointing people who loved the version of you that never challenged anything. But you can't spend your whole life being easy to understand at the expense of being honest with yourself.

i think a complaint im noticing a lot from older people is "younger people aren't taking our dishonest, consequence-free, misinformation-dense, hypernormalised society very seriously"

I always encourage people to go to city council meetings bc you gotta see how fucked it is to understand why it can’t be saved.

Physical healing is like emotional healing. My 5th metatarsal is fractured, and I see the analogy there. The bone is taking a long time to heal. It's partially healed. I tried wearing regular shoes, but my foot started hurting. I'm not ready. I'm not ready. Back to my safe boot.

A disturbing thing about this pandemic is the collective refusal to acknowledge reality and harm being done. There is no harm, and no one is responsible. There is nothing to be done about a pandemic with an airborne virus, and if there is something to be done, it's on you.

A coworker said she knows COVID is disabling people and people should see a doctor for that. Not we should do something or I have a role in this. But that's on them. People are comfortable being shameless, and that's telling. Still dishonest though and won't say they don't care.

Throughout these years, most (if not all) the people I know have defended and tried to justify their views and behavior in this pandemic. They also deny, minimize, and/or normalize. In all, they refuse to acknowledge what's going on and refuse to take any responsibility.

This essay began with an absence. My new piece for @thesicktimes asks why the art of Long COVID & ME can be hard to find—and what illness interrupts before work reaches public view. Public post. Plz help it travel: (like comment share etc): thesicktimes.org/2026/11/03/…

This community in Indonesia used to have water 24 hours a day. Then, data centers arrived… now residents can barely shower.

If our water tested positive for cholera, would we stop boiling/cleaning it & instead share it over & over with our children, elders, friends & neighbours? Now replace cholera with COVID and water with air. Why do we protect our water but hesitate to protect the air we breathe?
