As someone whose closest friends are non-medicos, I’d disagree. The most fun conversations are with them, because they revolve around ideas, new concepts, politics, tech, even fashion. Medico conversations revolve around patients, “what next”, branch and people stereotypes.
Yesterday I went for a party where someone commented that barring Doctors - no one talks about their work outside of work - especially in parties.
It was meant to be rude and I fully agree with him.
We are sort of insufferable that way.
A lot of people think it’s because we don’t have a life outside of medicine.
Which is also true. Again - sad.
But …but - I personally have plenty of life outside of hospital and medicine and still end up talking about medicine - but I feel the reason is different.
It’s not becuase it’s insufferable or we don’t have a life outside medicine.
It’s because the stories about patients and the work are unfathomably way more interesting than Anything else in the world.
Take 2 CA - what will they talk about? Numbers, taxation?
Politics? Modi or Gandhi? EY or KPMG?
While we were talking about at times funny and hilarious patient stories, sometimes genuinely sad, sometimes
Cathartic.
It’s listening to real life sitcoms, dramedy and tragedy all at once.
Maybe I’m insufferable and boring and that’s why I don’t like about taxation or cars or politics in a party,
Or maybe those stores and getting inside this fictional - non fictional world (it’s fiction from our perspective- since we haven’t lived it) - is a way more interesting world to be in.

I may or may not be supporting any protest. I support the right to protest.
Easy to see the country’s being divided when a bunch of “anarchists” do it, not easy when your government’s been doing it for more than a decade.
The protests today and the reactions of people in my feed today reflect how many of them have just great academics vs how many actually read and have knowledge and exposure in life. The more conventional the life choices… the more narrow the worldview.

Schools don't have teachers, hospitals don't have doctors, water has uranium, air is polluted, deforestation is at an all time high, the rupee is at an all time low, petrol prices are at an all time high, manipur is burning and after being the world's second-largest sugar exporter, we are now an importer. But yeah, let's talk about Vande Mataram.
every day on Boomer facebook is an exercise in patience and more motivation to genuinely leave the country
Patient today said his Grade 2 prostatomegaly is manageable today because Modi sahab has built toilets. Of all things I’ve heard the PM called, a Silodosin substitute is the wildest.
Years of debating in school taught me that the loudest, most podium-slapping speaker never wins. Mostly because nobody listens to them.
+ this is literally a prepared memorized speech, a sign of a good debater is being able to speak for any side lol stop gloating
if the convictions of my 4 am realizations translated into the actions of my 11 am self, my life would be very different rn 🥲
every day I open X or Facebook, my resolve to leave India gets stronger. And that’s when growing up, the one thing I would tell everyone was “I’m never leaving India.”

Have a look at the comments section or dms of any girl in India. Then maybe we can lecture them about their own language.

Lodu bhakt uncles now giving sermons about Gen Z language and doing Haaye Tauba at them calling Modi names. These loduchands should be reminded the kind of vitriolic language they used against Sonia Gandhi, MMS, and other congress leaders. Sab isi janam mein chukana hoga mitron!

Those who mock dead Palestinian children are extremely concerned about hateful language being used against Modi.

This is utterly appalling. Even in the days of the JP Movement leading up to the Emergency, there was no bar by the @UnivofDelhi on students joining any of his protests, and a couple of members of my Union Cabinet at St Stephen’s, including the late Chandan Mitra, openly did so.
If one of India’s foremost public universities is allowed to threaten its students and faculty with significant consequences if they attend a protest, it has a chilling effect on democratic speech and expression. Most DU students are not so privileged as to ignore such a sternly-worded warning without fearing that their academic or professional prospects might suffer if they attended the protest.
A university is meant to teach critical thinking and independent assessment of issues, not to stifle these very qualities. Shame on those at the @UnivofDelhi who saw fit to issue such a tweet. They are unworthy of holding any position at an institution of higher learning in a democracy.
Dear students and faculty, your safety matters to us. Please note that any unlawful assemblies or demonstrations at Jantar Mantar, New Delhi, which are strictly regulated as per the directives of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India, may invite legal action. Such activities can also pose serious risks to students’ personal safety and significantly impact their academic progress and professional opportunities. Accordingly, all students are urged to stay away from Jantar Mantar and to prioritise their safety and compliance with the law. Furthermore, you are advised to exercise caution as a significant amount of fake and misleading content is being created and circulated to fuel the situation.
