Inspired by @tomekzaw_'s Android <𝚃𝚎𝚡𝚝> profiling thread, I dug into the iOS side: how <𝚃𝚎𝚡𝚝> is measured and drawn, and what the <𝚅𝚒𝚎𝚠>s around it do when they move or fade ⏱️
Benchmarked with Argent on a physical iPhone 📱
So far, 4 PRs 🧵

React Native 0.88 is now available!
This release switches to a web-based event dispatching model, adds variable fonts support, SceneDelegate on iOS, and ArrayBuffer support for Android TurboModules. And it's another non-breaking major release.

Building 3rd part libraries to solve foundational performance issues are always a great addition and benefit for the community.
But I think it is time to look within the core framework for foundational improvements.
Kudos to @tomekzaw_ and others for driving such PRs 🔥

Introducing Tamagui 3.
Now the fastest and highest coverage Tailwind style library there is, free or paid.
Tamagui is now 100% open source, I’ve made Takeout and Bento OSS as well.
A rewritten compiler in rust now makes native even faster, plus a new C++ native runtime avoids re-rendering.
Flat style props, React Strict DOM, and a web-alignment push make Tamagui easier, lighter, and more familiar than ever.

I’ve optimized Teleport’s Android reparenting 🚀
Before you might see some flickering on old Android devices or in some specific configurations (like usage of TextureView).
With the new 1.2.0 implementation those glitches are gone😎
Lots of iOS engineers that I know have the same take, yet many others have the complete opposite opinion 🤔
Wonder if it is the defend the newest shiny thing regardless of its actual value.
Been a while since I code in Swift, but from what I’m seeing from the community that it is not heading to the right direction 🤷♂️

This can’t be real 🤣
Celebrating small wins is hardwired into "Achieve," our goal-tracking sample app.
We wanted the simple act of checking off a task to feel like a celebration. Instead of the standard #Material ripple, we used Styles to drop in a custom, high-contrast completion animation—specifically, a brand-colored ring that expands and fades on tap, paired with a subtle pressed-state gradient.
It lets us focus entirely on polishing those custom, rewarding micro-interactions while Material handles the foundation.

Very sad to see mobile engineers fighting so desperately to prove that they can use AI to build an RN clones in “nAtIvE” languages to reassure themself.
Oh how the tables have turned 😂, we used to question: Can It Be Done In React Native. And now they are questioning themself, can we do it in “nAtIvE”
Amazing work @nater02 🔥

onboarding screens are always fun because we can play with a lot of things. not gatekeeping this so here's the sauce:
- bottom sheet from @gorhom, the unbeatable legend
- expo-linear-gradient for bottom sheet's edge fade
- react-native-masked-view to mask the video during transition
- react-native-gesture-handler + react-native-reanimated + react-native-worklets (scheduleOnRn). all from @swmansion. the combo to drive the transition and animation
the onboarding starts with immersive scene in step 1-3: hidden status bar, linear gradient to blend top notch with the content below. in step 4, the bottom sheet expands and the status bar is shown. to add little play, the triangle kicks up once the step 4 is at rest.
ui aside, do you understand what the app does?
