How to burn $5m in run-rate in 6 months as a Series B start-up. 1. Commit to a revenue target as part of the raise that is 2-3x beyond where you are now. 2. Get hyped up by the raise, meet a CMO, flirt about PLG. 3. Get serious about PLG. Start throwing money into AEO blackboxes, build podcast studio in garden. 4. Hire a VP Sales through a big agency with a shit hot PLG track record. 5. Hire them a team. 6. Employ the team, send them out into the wild. Go for drinks. Believe the hype. 7. Start reviewing sales funnel. See your one remaining SLG rep is crushing, new team not so much. 8. Talk to network, wander in nature, talk to god, 9. Realise your selling a SLG product and no matter how much hype you get, how $’s you raise, you created a complex high touch product and you can’t fight the tide. 10. fire PLG team, build new team around legacy SLG rep, enjoy how sticky your slowly won big customers are. Wonder why that fucking CMO is still around.

The recruiting platforms (i.e paraform) are funny as their pitch is “recruiting is broken” but their attempt to fix it is build a middle man layer, staffed by ex consultants between recruiters (already middlemen) and clients - where the only useful signal (feedback) is lost. 🤌

can confirm the first month of starting a biz is quite heavy on the “eat glass” less heavy on the glamour

For agency recruiters - specifically permanent, why the actual F are teams still using linkedin recruiter versus linkedin premium? I just do not understand it? The cost is just outrageous for a pretty basic UI and messaging.

I started my tech career in recruiting - then got recruited into b2b saas and did it pretty damn well for 6 years… promotions, p club etc What never left me was the joy of helping people get a new job at a great company. It beats signing a contract on friday at EoQ. So - now i’m recruiting for GTM & Ops at early stage co’s. And betting that i’m now a better recruiter that 6 years ago…

game theory fix for lack of willpower: eliminate choice entirely. hernán cortés burned his ships so his troops couldn't retreat. you don't need more discipline. you need a commitment device, a constraint that makes backing out mathematically impossible.

Could they do on rainy nights in Oxford, Birmingham, Manchester and maybe even across the Pennines?
Five years ahead of schedule. $195 million under budget. Since October 2023, crews replaced 196 bridge structures and more than 12,600 feet of railroad along the 133-year-old Park Avenue Viaduct—all over 28 tightly coordinated weekends while maintaining full Metro-North service. The work took place along a critical corridor carrying 98% of Metro-North trains—approximately 750 trains and 260,000 passengers every day. With the major structural replacement now complete, we asked the project lead how the MTA delivered the work faster and for less without disrupting service.

a really good test of AI meeting real world human managed committees, which are famously not logical. Probably wont work, as the system itself is designed and maintained by people who don’t want to approve new house building where they live.

“Crucially, the planning officer remains in full control as the final decision-maker. They review every line the tool generates, edit the reasoning and retain the authority to approve or reject an application” The purpose of a system is what it does. UK planning is broken.

Had drinks with 30 CTOs last night at an off-the-record gathering in Palo Alto Every single one showed me the same internal PowerPoint slide "2026 AI Headcount Targets: Path to 70% Cost Reduction" The numbers will make you physically sick Fintech CTO planning to cut 280-person engineering org down to 43 "AI orchestrators" by September. Same product roadmap. Same delivery expectations. Healthcare CTO already eliminated his entire manual QA department. 67 people. Replaced with 3 senior engineers running autonomous testing agents that ship code directly to production. SaaS CTO walked me through his "human depreciation timeline": 340 engineers today, 89 planned for 2027. Customer support going from 120 humans to 12 "escalation specialists" managing AI conversations. The most chilling part: they're all using the exact same consulting deck from McKinsey called "The 30% Organization" One CTO literally said "hiring humans for code is like hiring horses for transportation" Another showed me Slack screenshots where his L7s are asking if they should train their replacements The consensus was unanimous: if you can't manage 10 AI agents by Christmas, you're not making it to New Year's Every single one of them is planning to announce these cuts as "AI transformation success stories" While their stock options vest at record highs built on the backs of workers they're about to execute The future of engineering is 3 humans with 50 AI agents in a WeWork somewhere while 500 families lose their homes
Readers added context they thought people might want to know
The McKinsey deck "The 30% Organization" does not exist, and no verified reports confirm the claimed widespread 70% AI headcount reductions among CTOs. McKinsey has discussed modest changes like 25% role growth in some areas and 10% cuts in others. mckinsey.com finance.yahoo.com/news/mckinseys… bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

The US has launched an unprovoked and illegal attack on Venezuela. This is a brazen attempt to secure control over Venezuelan natural resources. It is an act of war that puts the lives of millions of people at risk — and should be condemned by anyone who believes in sovereignty and international law.
