It's been an incredible journey learning from the research and patient-advocate communities to prepare for today's launch of LongCovidLearning.org and @LongCovidLearn. We hope our work helps you find ways to talk to coworkers, friends, and family about the risks to us all. 1/
We're excited to announce the launch of LongCovidLearning.org at today's @TheWHN symposium. What are we learning about #LongCovid? Should the risks change what precautions we take? Follow us for key findings from the global research community made simple and accessible to all.

Another year desperately trying to get my kid a booster before she brings Covid home to the rest of the family. FDA *could* have approved them to ship it weeks ago. Hell, the approved pediatric dose is actually just half the Moderna vial for 12yo+. Same concentration! But nooooo.

I've learned from my own efforts to improve air quality in local schools that it takes organization, funding, and especially the will to make a difference. I'm hopeful Illinois can step up and set an example for the nation. Clean indoor air helps keep kids healthy and learning.
📣 The @ilga is back in session! Pls support IL HB3713 Clean Air for Healthy Equitable Schools. We already passed the House and are now hoping to be assigned to a Senate committee (deadline to pass out of committee is 3/15). Please like & repost! Let’s make some noise! 📣 #twill

Hey @AlaskaAir, even if you don't care about unmasked passengers getting sick from poorly ventilated flights, it would be awesome not to spend 6hr on AS 3 DCA->SEA with a splitting headache from ~2000ppm CO2. I'll be rethinking who I fly with until you do something about this.

Thorough dissection of the flawed Cochrane Review on masking. Turns out, in addition to the design flaws pointed out by others, the underlying math is also incorrect. (Kudos to the authors for their keen eye!) @cochranecollab, time to consider a retraction?
New paper on Masks: Some claim scientific studies show masks don’t work, or that surgical masks are as good as N95s. Just released paper shows this claim is false. Masks work, and N95 respirators give a much higher benefit than surgical masks.1/

Oh, sure, the kids can wait on vaccines, given that schools are magical zones where viruses don't spread. Especially because young kids, who are at higher risk for hospitalization than most adults, are well-known for their stellar hygiene. cidrap.umn.edu/covid-19/more…
Why have COVID shots for younger children been hard to find? @CDCDirector told reporters today: "manufacturers and distributors were getting out the adult vaccines first. So that was what was shipping, in the first number of days" tinalexander.github.io/notes…

“Even after COVID started to wane, it feels like there's problems with [the 84.9% increase in excess] mortality, which I believe right now is a public health problem that can be addressed by insurance taking leadership.” Well someone has to, eh @CDCgov? 🙄 insurancenewsnet.com/innarti…

📢 Our largest missed #pandemic opportunity is absolutely ventilation. 😔 It's disheartening to see how this crucial aspect has been overlooked throughout the pandemic. Ventilation is a solution that is both politically and medically noncontroversial, requiring no significant effort on the part of individuals, and yet it has the potential to significantly lower harm not just from Covid, but also from allergies, asthma, flu, and pollutants. 🌬️ It's puzzling to me why the administration and politicians haven’t placed more emphasis on this simple yet effective measure. By improving ventilation systems in public spaces, schools, and workplaces, we could have mitigated the spread of the virus and saved countless lives. 😷 Moreover, the benefits of enhanced ventilation extend far beyond the current pandemic. By prioritizing this aspect, we could have created healthier environments for everyone, reducing the burden of respiratory illnesses and improving overall well-being. 🌿 It's disheartening to think about the missed opportunities and the potential impact we could have had if ventilation had been given the attention it deserves. As we move forward, let's not forget the lessons learned and advocate for better ventilation systems in all aspects of our lives. Together, we can create a safer and healthier future for all. 💪🏽 Agree? Share your thoughts below. Let's discuss and raise awareness about the importance of ventilation in combating not just Covid, but also other respiratory challenges we face. 🗣️ #VentilationMatters #MissedOpportunity

Public health is flying blind. With folks struggling to find and afford tests, wastewater is the only surveillance we have left to take action proactively BEFORE we wake up to full hospitals. Today is the last day to tell CDC to extend testing for 3 years: regulations.gov/commenton/CD…

Wastewater data is critical for the new indoor air quality standard, which defines for schools and businesses an "infection risk management mode, which applies during identified periods of elevated disease transmission risk." How will we know when that is? ashrae.org/about/news/2023/a…

After you've voiced your support for wastewater surveillance, add your voice to one of the only things in our "we have the tools" policy toolbox available to our kids: access to vaccines that offer the best possible protection: regulations.gov/commenton/CD…. Deadline: tomorrow, Sept 8.
Please join @PTF_org and remind the CDC's ACIP committee: kids are not supposed to die or become disabled by viruses allowed to run rampant in schools. Quickly making the next iteration of the vaccine available to all ages is a moral imperative in the absence of safety concerns.

Replying to @PTF_org
Covid-19 continues to spread in our communities, even as our health leaders leave the burden of protection on each individual. Holding back a newly formulated vaccine that has been ready since July is unacceptable. We need vaccines to be reviewed & available ASAP for ALL ages!

Your voice is needed, both in comments for the CDC and in your school, to demand we do what we can. Ignoring Covid does not make it go away. It does not stop it from ruining lives. Only our advocacy can do that. Those are the only "tools" we have to protect our kids' health.
Great question from @jdickerson last night that *everyone* should be asking about schools: "So, Joe, if it's not that hard to do, not super expensive, better health outcomes and better schooling outcomes, what's up, why hasn't this money been spent?"

"If Covid is so bad for kids, why isn't anyone talking about it?" Because our leaders gave up. Because the status quo is easier. Because sticking our heads in the mud is easier. Because it's "better for the economy." @mehdirhasan is using his platform. Will we make them listen?
One of the most important myth-busting deep-dives I've ever done. What was the real impact of Covid school closures? Were they avoidable? Did they cause 'learning loss' & mental health decline? What's the impact of Covid on kids' health? Please do watch: youtube.com/watch?v=-h5xyGdV…
