The icing issue sounds like a possible cause of a loss of lift (a stall). Recovering from a stall at altitude is VERY different from recovering at a low altitude. It can easily cause an out-of-control / overspeed situation. Will be shocked if this isn’t found to be the cause.

Scott Satterfield has a really cool story about his mentor Jerry Moore.
Moore, who is 87, is a former Texas Tech HC and longtime Appalachian State HC. He drove from Boone, NC to watch the Bearcats take down Texas Tech, who fired him in 1985.
