There is a tragedy looking at the very deep Dropbox and Miro layoffs (18-20%):
Both companies are *profitable*. Dropbox generates a very healthy profit ($450M profit / net income on $2.5B of revenues).
A reminder of one downside of taking VC-funding or going public!

One of the cheapest and most loving gifts is to let someone be seen. If you know a full-time breadwinner-and-caregiver, maybe give them the Valentines Day gift of telling their story? They do more in a day than most hustle bros do in a week and no one ever knows.
This was a great conversation about hip-hop history and culture!

Time to verbalise this:
Paid tech conferences are rightfully held to high ethical standards.
Customers should not have to do due diligence on them. Paid speakers on the other hand, do. If they find that something is wrong: hopefully choose their integrity over the speaker fee.

I remind all tech conference organizers that there are THOUSANDS of speakers of all walks of life, genders, ages, and backgrounds. I respectfully offer 920 here for you to invite to your conferences hanselminutes.com/episodes inclusion means doing the work. So, do the work, friends.

Imagine a tech conference having no CFP, as they reach out to speakers directly. They successfully attract some of the most heavy hitter men speakers in tech, and 3 women speakers.
Now imagine my surprise that 2 of those women are FAKE profiles.
They do not exist.
Nada.

Shift-Ctrl-T reopens the tab you just closed. It's like undo for closed tabs and you can repeat it over and over. Get this shortcut into your muscle memory and you'll use it daily.

Same thing for promotions. Most people get promoted by building something new (a new feature, a new service). Rarely do you get a promotion by simplifying / removing.
The industry needs to figure out how to recognize the value of simplification.

A lot of folks are reaching out, which is awesome! One common response is that if we don't adopt assistive technology like Copilot today, we're doomed. But folks, this is a hype cycle. You don't have to be an early adopter. It really is okay! 💖teapawt.org/kevinswiber/status/170…

No one should be.
Tech’s employment tests are worse than aptitude tests and they should have been phased out a long time ago. They create a veil for continued discrimination against marginalized professionals.
