I took my first drink at age 13 and my last at age 38. That’s 25 yrs of numbing myself. Since I quit it’s taken me many yrs to understand WHY I drank. I thought I drank bc I liked it. Turns out I drank bc I didn’t like certain feelings, I lacked true self believe,& I never had the tools to deal w/life. I drank bc it was cool & for the most part fun! Then it wasn’t fun- I always wanted to stop boozing but my thought was “what will my buddies think? How will I entertain customers? Will life be boring w/o the drink?” I haven’t meet ONE person who’s said to me “my life has improved so much since I really started drinking.” But I’ve met a LOT of ppl whose lives have been ruined by booze. Families get destroyed, careers ruined, and lives get taken by booze. This post isn’t about anti booze. It’s about encouraging anyone out there who is thinking of hanging up the devil juice to know that for ME quitting has changed my life. It’s allowed me to see things differently and to be a better person overall. I still stumble and fall but I don’t NEED booze to live my life, nor do you. It takes balls to quit & not care about the social consequences. I promise you ppl will respect you for it. If you’re a bad drunk they will be relived you quit. If they get you shit for it, typically it means they are scared to death about their own shit they haven’t had the guts to address. Don’t quit for others IF you are thinking of quitting, do it for yourself. You’ll be amazed at the subtle changes that happen.
