Since we can't have working fireplaces, or wood-burning stoves, how are we going to heat up our stores of tinned food when you switch off the electricity, dear government?

I may have took Councillor Burnham’s suggestion more seriously if I hadn’t been text alerted last year about BBQ sausages.

'We'll tax our way to prosperity'
John Healey will launch a tax raid on retiring business owners to fund fresh incentives for entrepreneurs to grow in Britain. The Telegraph understands that a £1bn tax break mainly used by owners who sell their businesses, known as Business Asset Disposal Relief (BADR), will be significantly scaled back in next week’s Budget. 🔗:telegraph.co.uk/business/202…

On this day—October 23, 1942 An SS Einsatzkommando unit was waiting in Athens for the order to bring the Holocaust to Mandate Palestine’s Jews when British forces under Montgomery opened the Second Battle of El Alamein. By the summer of 1942, Erwin Rommel’s Afrika Korps had driven deep into Egypt. British forces held a defensive line at El Alamein, 60 miles west of Alexandria. From there, the road to the Suez Canal and to Mandate Palestine with nearly 600,000 Jews was open. Another 75,000 lived in Egypt, and both communities understood the danger. Reports of mass killings of Jews in Europe had already reached them. In Berlin, an Einsatzkommando under Walther Rauff was assembled and positioned in Athens. Its orders were to carry out “special operations” against the Jewish population once Axis forces advanced beyond Egypt. Local Arabs in Mandate Palestine, anticipating a German arrival, marked Jewish houses for seizure. Grandi Mufti Amin al-Husseini had already met with Hitler and sought Arab units to fight alongside German forces against the Jews and the British. On the night of October 23, Montgomery’s Eighth Army launched a massive artillery barrage and infantry assault. Over the following days, the Axis lines broke. Rommel’s forces began a long retreat to the west. The Einsatzkommando never deployed to Mandate Palestine, but it later operated in Tunisia. The battle is usually remembered as a turning point in the North African campaign. For the Jews of Mandate Palestine and Egypt, it was the point at which a planned extension of the Holocaust was halted.

🚨 NEW: Andy Burnham criticises Angela Rayner for including a bottle of Sauvignon Blanc in her survival kit “I’m not sure that’s the top of the list… You need to have a clear head in a challenging situation. Some tins of food, bottled water. People are allowed a glass or two”

40T is 300k barrels. Which is 2 (yes, just two, no zeros here) hours of US consumption. Russia will get at least $30m, but likely closer to $50m for that. That will go, among other things, to supporting Iran. If this is not self own, I don’t know what is.

Absolutely damning. The UK’s Online Safety Act is not only a censor’s charter, it’s a total failure - our YouGov poll showed even most MPs say it should be repealed or reformed. Yet, here come more policies to ruin the internet. Next: passports to get online, spyware for phones.
🚨NEW: The Online Safety Act has been a failure, according to a new report from Ofcom. Ofcom have found "no significant change" in children encountering harmful content since the law came into effect last July. This is despite the signifigant threats to free speech and privacy.

Talking is not a secret concept available only to the elite. I'm all in favour of elocution lessons but can we not pretend that access to speech is the reserve of the "few" because it is rancid, divisive nonsense.

It's funny how they always post this meme and it's never actually in the context of being "right" over anything. No different than QAnon believers, anti-vaxxers, and flat earthers acting like they were "right about everything".
