Many years of this….A typical field stop in canola to assess crop stage, weeds, and flea beetle feeding damage.

Tailored fertility over time meant: 1) yield gains, 2) cost optimizations; 3) improved fertilizer allocation

It is one thing to recommend more fertilizer; it is another to recommend less without losing top end yield potential. Perhaps the situations where there is high N supply (drought, hail, previous high fertilizer rates, etc) that cause discomfort, but are also margin opportunities

Fall is here again and wishing everyone a good harvest run once these weather doldrums are over. If you are thinking about crop fertility for 2027 and have questions on the right rates for top economical yields @Western_Ag can help
Had a chance to visit a silage corn field that we provided the applied fertility plan through the @Western_Ag @westernagNWSK cropcast process. With high N soil supply even corn does not necessarily need high applied N to set up good yield potential. See pic for applied fert.
Many (most?) farmers we work with push applied fertility to allow highest yield potential. It means heavy N rates. Since 2021 off and on dry with lower yields - rates overshoot actual yield. @Western_Ag can recover pent up fertility - building applied N rates around soil supply.
A perfectly parted sprayer track with dividers. This will overgrow with zero loss. @Western_Ag optimized applied fertility here.
Applied fertility designed around the soil nutrient supply. Under the right circumstances, applied N can be dialed back and still set up for very high yield potential.
3 fields. All seeded May 26. Same variety. Same farm. All fields @Western_Ag optimized for similar yields. See the pics for applied fertility. The differences are due to differing nutrient supply in each field. Note the cost differences.
2026 canola off to a nice start. May 24 seeded @Western_Ag optimzed and applied. These later seeding dates get the boost from a very wet May long weekend and heat early after emergence.

We’re thrilled to have joined Ryan Denis on the latest episode of the What the Futures! podcast: "Canola Hits $800: The Biofuel Story Nobody Saw Coming."
Blake Weiseth sat down to talk about how better agronomy data, fertility planning, and yield forecasting with tools like PRS CropCaster can help producers make smarter marketing decisions — especially in a volatile market driven by biofuel demand.
Tune in to hear discussions on the surprising canola rally, U.S. renewable fuel policy impacts, risk management, and why the best sales often happen when it feels the most uncomfortable.

On the home stretch of harvest 2025. Lots of fuel burnt. Challenging crop to get threw. @lentilfarmer @NHAgriculture @RMEHQ @fulllineag
