Shagoon 1964
Khayyam, Sahir, Suman Kalyanpur
Waheeda , Kamaljeet
Shagoon is the film where Waheeda Rehman was paired with Kamaljeet, who later became her real-life husband.
Suman Kalyanpur delivers a hauntingly vulnerable rendition. During this era, her vocal texture was often compared to Lata Mangeshkar, but songs like this allowed her distinct emotional depth to shine.
Khayyam composed the minimalistic, atmospheric tune, relying heavily on a soft rhythm and poignant pauses to let the poetry is Sahir breathe.
It was during the making of this film that the Khayyam and the playback singer Jagjit Kaur fell in love. They went on to have a long, beautiful marriage, making the film's soundtrack a sentimental milestone in their lives.

Nathan Watts's bass on "Sir Duke", note by note.
Stevie wrote it as a tribute to Duke Ellington and the swing-era greats. The famous unison run has Watts doubling the horn section note for note, one of the hardest bass parts in pop.

Mulzim 1963
Ravi, Shakeel, Rafi
Pradeep Kumar, Shakila
Mulzim was one of the very last films featuring Shakila before she retired from the Hindi film industry following her marriage.
Music director Ravi was famous for utilizing Mohammed Rafi's softer, gentler romantic range. Unlike high-pitched tracks, this song is composed as a soft, intimate ghazal that requires immense breath control and a smooth, conversational delivery—a signature style that Ravi frequently leveraged for actors like Pradeep Kumar.
Pradeep Kumar was considered the "King of Royalty" in Bollywood, often cast in historical dramas and Urdu-culture socials (like Taj Mahal and Anarkali).
This song showcases his signature style—subdued, intensely polite, and deeply expressive—making it one of his most remembered romantic tracks outside of his major historical blockbusters.

Wonderful classic vintage song from the 1938 movie Bhabhi.
This song is a superb semi classical song based on raag gaud malhaar, and listening to it is so pleasing to the senses.
Picturised on Renuka Devi and Jairaj .
J S Kashyap is the lyricist and music is composed by Saraswati Devi.
One of the earliest female music directors in Indian cinema who trained under Pandit Vishnu Narayan Bhatkhande.
This song is widely celebrated as one of the earliest and most defining "Saawan" classics in Hindi cinema history.

Marvin Gaye - I Heard It Through The Grapevine (Live at the Montreux Jazz Festival 1980)
Superb! Electric live performance of his 1968 #1 hit single. Marvin's version of the song was voted "the nation's favourite Motown song" in 2015 in a UK poll for the ITV Motown special. ❤️

And to think this all time classic Motown song was almost destined to be just an album track. Hidden away on their 1967 album Make It Happen, the song was released as a single in the UK in 1970, hitting #1.❤️

Zeenat Aman is the OG diva 🧚🏼♀️
Decades before Victoria’s Secret debuted its fantasy bra, Bhanu Athaiya — India’s first Oscar winner — designed Aman’s sculptural outfits in this dream sequence from Satyam Shivam Sundaram (1978).
“She was prolific and meticulous,” the actor wrote of Athaiya. “No other designer in my life has come close to creating outfits for me that were as comfortable as they were sensual.”

A Rafi Asha duet from the 1980 movie Judaai.
Music LP. Lyrics AB.
The music directors were at the absolute peak of their careers when Judaai was released. The soundtrack was a massive commercial success, contributing heavily to their legendary run in 1980 alongside other blockbuster albums like Karz, Aasha, and Dostana.
The famous Rekha Jeetu jodi of the 80's
Rekha was only 26 years old during the filming of Judaai. In the second half of the movie, she famously transitioned into playing an older mother to actors Sachin Pilgaonkar and Arun Govil.
The pairing of Jeetendra and Rekha was one of the memorable collaborations of mainstream Hindi cinema, spanning several decades. They worked together in approximately 30 films.
Jeetendra himself recalled that they had made about 30 films together and fondly described Rekha as his “jaan” and a friend who always stood by him.

In my Top 5 greatest songs .
“Raat Bhi Hai Kuch Bheegi Bheegi” — Mujhe Jeene Do (1963) is a song of haunting beauty, where poetry, melody and dance come together to create an unforgettable cinematic moment.
Sung by the legendary Lata Mangeshkar, composed by Jaidev, and penned by Sahir Ludhianvi, it features the exquisite Waheeda Rehman, with Sunil Dutt also present in the sequence.
What makes this song so special is its intoxicating atmosphere of a moonlit night, unspoken longing and tender romance.
Sahir's poetry paints a picture of a damp, dreamy night and a subdued moon, while the delicate imagery of the sleeping anklet waiting to awaken adds a magical touch.
Jaidev's composition is understated yet deeply evocative.
There is an exquisite flow to the melody, and the gentle rhythmic pattern gives the song an almost hypnotic quality.
Lata Mangeshkar's singing is a masterpiece of restraint and expression. Her voice glides effortlessly through the melody, conveying tenderness, mystery and a quiet emotional intensity.
The repeated “chham-chham” is particularly enchanting, almost recreating the sound of Waheeda Rehman's anklets through her voice.
And then there is Waheeda Rehman! Her graceful movements, expressive eyes and effortless elegance elevate the song beyond an ordinary mujra sequence. She brings a rare combination of dignity, sensuality and vulnerability to the performance.
The real magic lies in the coming together of Sahir's evocative poetry, Jaidev's soulful music, Lata's silken voice and Waheeda's mesmerising screen presence. It is a song that doesn't merely describe a romantic night; it makes us feel its stillness, its mystery and its unspoken emotions.
A timeless gem that lingers in the heart long after the music fades ❤️
