Likely the reason why portions of QRZ is down!
Effective Immediately, all organizations using PHP for their systems are advised to be prepared for an update addressing two critical vulnerabilities. PHP is widely used for web applications. These vulnerabilities often provide a direct path to the server's file system or database. If an immediate update is not feasible, it is recommend that organizations take the system offline until it can be fully mitigated. NSA will follow up shortly with more specific guidance.

You know you’re getting older when every wire in the shack needs a label, every connection needs documentation, and every tiny modification needs to be recorded. The real fear is how it all works works….and forgetting what you did 3 days ago.

There is so much to learn. The more I read, the more questions I have and the deeper my curiosity grows…The ultimate truth is realizing how much you don’t know! And when you realize that somewhere along that journey, ego quietly commits suicide! retirement will be awesome as it nears every single day!

Newmann Note Incident, Yagi-Uda antenna and how Japanese rediscovered their own invention! In 1942, Japan captured Singapore and, among the abandoned British military equipment, discovered documentation relating to the British Searchlight Control (SLC) radar system. SLC was designed to help searchlights locate and track aircraft at night. Remarkably, its antenna system used Yagi arrays one transmitting Yagi antenna and four receiving Yagi arranged to determine the aircraft’s position relative to the searchlight. By switching and comparing the directional signals, the system generated tracking information that drove the searchlight toward the target. (“Yagi” term because that’s how it was mostly known those days and possibly even today! but we should not forget the original inventor Uda - and wherever possible we should use Yagi-Uda) The Yagi-Uda antenna, of course, had been invented in Japan in the 1926 or so by Hidetsugu Yagi and Shintaro Uda and Mr Yagi patented it in Japan and USA. My readings indicate Japanese patent expired in early 40s and Japan never took this invention much seriously. And here comes the extraordinary irony. Among the captured British material was a notebook associated with British radar operator Newman/Newmann. It contained technical information about SLC and repeatedly referred to a “YAGI ARRAY.” Japanese investigators reportedly initially did not understand what “Yagi” referred to. They eventually discovered that it was the name of a Japanese scientist and that the British had incorporated his invention into an advanced military radar system. In other words: Japan invented the antenna Britain used it in radar. Japan captured the British radar in Singapore. And Japan rediscovered the military significance of its own invention through British documentation!! The story has been retold with increasingly dramatic details over the decades, and some elements particularly the famous interrogation story are sometimes disputed. Researchers Gentei Sato and Shozo Usami later investigated the evidence. Sato published A Secret Story About the Yagi Antenna in 1991, followed by their 2001 study, The Authenticity of the “Newman” Notebook and Its Reference to the “Yagi Antenna.” The complete original notebook is apparently no longer available, but portions and reproductions of the material survive. A remarkable chapter in radio history: an antenna invented in a Japanese laboratory became part of British wartime radar and its military importance was later rediscovered by Japan through captured British equipment! Those interested in further detail can check IEEE resources or search for newmann incident note! Sometimes a story behind a story is more interesting than the story itself 😁

100 years ago, in 1926, the Yagi-Uda beam antenna was invented! A century later, it remains a cornerstone of directional RF.

Website is now up but LOTW is still down.
ARRL is currently experiencing a network outage that is affecting access to several of our online systems, including the ARRL website and Logbook of The World (LoTW). We’ll post updates as soon as service is restored. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I am very impressed by the rapid development of AetherSDR and feel deeply indebted to everyone working on it. I worry the team is facing heavy pressure to add support for other radio brands. The project was built specifically as a native client for FlexRadio systems. Too much feature creep and losing focus can hurt a great open-source project!
