the hardest part of building a business isn't the product. it's getting people with different incentives, ambitions, and egos to move in the same direction

i think ai agents could be the next evolution of open banking. the interesting part isn't moving money. we already have automation for that. it's who owns the customer relationship. open banking lets you connect your accounts to other services. agents could take that further. instead of comparing rates yourself, you could say, “keep enough for my bills and move the rest when a better option meets my requirements.” you're delegating a goal, not managing every step. that could make customer inertia much less valuable. a better offer still needs you to notice it, compare the conditions and actually do something. an agent could do that for you. your bank could become one of several providers your agent evaluates, rather than the place where every financial decision starts. the opportunity isn't to get around bank security. it's to give customers the ability to authorize agents within clear limits, with access they can revoke. but the agent's incentives matter just as much. if it recommends whichever bank pays it the most, we've just created another distribution channel.

One of my mentors is an under the radar billionaire who operates largely on handshake partnerships. He has a saying: “If we’re going back and looking at legal documents…we’re no longer partners.” It’s wisdom I didn’t appreciate at first, but boy has it proved accurate.

Operational work rarely belongs to one person or one system. Understanding a situation may require information from several sources. Acting on it may require contributions, decisions, approvals and permitted actions across different teams. The work must then remain understandable as people, priorities and circumstances change. Loura is a platform designed to connect this work. Employees contribute their knowledge, judgment and authority. AI agents use connected company data and applications to produce useful work, carry permitted activities forward and involve people when their input is required. The aim is not automation for its own sake. It is to help organizations become more effective, handle greater demands with their available resources and keep important work dependable through handoffs and change. Loura exists to increase what organizations are capable of accomplishing.

i’m hiring a founder associate at @useloura. you’ll work directly with me across whatever matters most: customers, product, hiring, fundraising, operations, and the random high-priority problems that come with building a company. looking for someone extremely sharp, fast, resourceful, and comfortable with ambiguity. riyadh. high ownership. very little hand-holding. dm me if this sounds like you, or refer someone great.

gitlab's handbook is genuinely impressive. a huge part of how the company operates is just public: hiring, compensation, management, product, sales, meetings, decision-making, almost everything. handbook.gitlab.com/handbook…

the weird thing about ambition is that you spend years trying to become the person you once imagined, then one day you realize you’ve changed so much that the original goal doesn’t even fit anymore. i think a lot about who i’m becoming while building all of this

the hardest skill i’ve found is unlearning things you already know. i struggled during my first three months of building a company because i came in with a lot of ideas about startups, product, and how companies should be built. some of that helped, but some of it made me slower to see what was actually in front of me. when you know very little, you ask more questions. once you know enough, you start forming strong opinions, and sometimes you hold onto them longer than you should. i think a big part of becoming a better founder is staying willing to change your mind. experience is useful, but only if you don’t let it become baggage. sometimes the hardest thing is accepting that something you were sure about just isn’t true anymore.

Bending Spoons’ acquisition of Miro is a striking reset in software valuations. Miro was valued at $17.5B in 2022, and is now being acquired at an implied enterprise value of roughly $1.36B, despite generating around $600M in ARR, nearly 90% of it from business and enterprise customers. That puts the deal at just ~2.3× ARR and represents an almost 90% decline from its 2022 equity valuation. What makes the deal particularly interesting is what Bending Spoons is accumulating across its portfolio: enormous amounts of proprietary data on how people create, collaborate, communicate, edit, and work. At this point, with the amount and diversity of data Bending Spoons has access to, it could practically start an AI lab of its own.

Miro, Airtable and Vimeo show how sharply private valuations can reset. Bending Spoons’ headline acquisition equity values are approximately 90%, 81% and 76% below their last private funding valuations, respectively. Miro’s deal remains pending.

Bending Spoons disclosed enterprise values of $1.355B for Miro, $1.285B for Airtable and $759M for Tractive. Other figures require estimates from purchase consideration, cash and debt. A reported purchase price isn’t automatically enterprise value.
